I have been doing a little browsing on gun lubes and wondered what the NES
community is using out there. Here are some links for stuff I have found.

I've been using FP-10 and TWB-15; been happy with both.

I only started using TWB-15 towards the end of last summer, but it's worked great in that time period.

TW-25B, MPRO-7 oil. I'll use anything really. I am moving more towards MPRO-7 with frequent applications (150 rounds or so). It leaves the gun clean and lubes just as well.

On stuff that doesn't need grease, I've always used BreakFree CLP. It also is one of the best rust preventatives available.

Alan said he won't use anything but Militech. Anyone that is military can get free samples. Even enough for their squad/platoon. They were great and after they went through the first batch, they sent Alan more for free. I have nothing but good to say about them, and they sent it out immediately.[grin]

OK... maybe this is a stupid question, but if you maintain your pistol regularly, how do you know a particular brand "works great"?

And if you don't maintain your pistol, and have problems, is it the lube's fault?

(for what it is worth, I use M-pro 7 and it does work great.)

Matt

I got a set of some kind of dry lube, based on Molybdenum Disulfide , which is pretty weird, but does seem to work OK.

On the recommendation of a Master class shooter I've been using Mobile 1 Synthetic motor oil for almost a year now and am happy with it. It seems like the guns are easier to clean too (for the rare occasions I actually clean them).

-Cuz.

I've used Break-Free for decades and still keep a can in my range box. I've also used MiliTec and FP-10.

Based on the good results w/synthetics, I now use the synthetic oil (10W-30) I drain from the bottles after I change the oil on my car.

I first learned about Mobil 1 on GT a few years ago. You can see the difference when you clean your gun. Alot cheaper too ![wink]

I have about a dozen hi tech lubes in my cleaning box. I haven't tried the Enos or Wilson lubes yet.
I just buy them when I need to spend money, but don't need anything.
I've been using Militec lately, but I'm a bit skeptical about it. I can't look at a dry gun and still think it's lubed. for super slickness while still being dry, I use the Militec and then some Tri-Flow dry lube on top. It's too slick for my AW-93. the slide cycles too fast. But it stays really clean. I usually go about 1000 rounds before cleaning my 22, and I never clean the barrel.
Previously I used FP10, but now I'm liking the BreakFree LP without the C. It seems to have more cushion effect.
I only use Neco Moly Slide on my triggers. I haven't found anything as good for that yet.

Are you guys cleaning with the stuff or just using it as lube? I know it has cleaning agents in it, but wasn't sure about what your using it for.
I'm just using it as a lube. After coming home from the range most of the soot wipes right off with a towel. Right now I'm using the last of my Hoppe's #9 up then I'll switch to MPro7. Heard good things about it.

Looooob

I use whatever synthetic oil that I have kicking around from the truck (it takes 3 gallons of oil, I usually have TONS left over) I have found that TW25 is a SUPERB lube (grease and the oil they sell)

Let me check my notes, I did some sub-zero lube tests last winter. Most of the gun oils worked, motor oil worked (synthetic, mobil/amsoil/redline, ATF, etc). Olive oil did not, Crisco and butter did not work. Oddly Mobil 1 synthetic GREASE worked, but the slide was in slow motion (kinda cool actually!). Normal grease was a non-starter. TW 25 grease and oil worked.

All the gun lubes worked as needed, synthetic oils worked, don't mess with weird lubes on a carry gun. I know of one gent who used 3 in 1 oil on his gun, it got cold and was unreliable. Another gent uses Marvel Mystery Oil and has barrel rusting BADLY.

Hope that helps.

Andy (who uses Synthetics in ALL his leather machinery)

Works great on my dry suit seals and I don't get a rash...

I use Mobile One for the rotating parts and a few types of RIG for sliding parts of most of my firearms. I use Libra-plate white grease on my older service rifles.. Very happy with the results from the RIG brand of products...
