Absolutely. Just ask every psychopathic socialist dictator in history. They’ll explain it, implement it, and you get to see the end results as well.
Even if there ever was such a thing as a benevolent government that wasn't corrupt, gun control (at least at the levels which exist in most places on this planet, even the US) still otherwise creates enormous moral hazard, that's kind of what always sealed it off as being shitty, to me. You can't have gun control that stops "bad people" without creating some kind of enormous civil and human rights infringement in the process. The only thing you can (sometimes) do that isn't morally hazardous is have laws which limit how someone uses a gun legally. (and we already have tons of those, whether its self defense based, laws against assault/murder/etc, that require no real connection to guns to exist. )
Throw the malevolent by default nature of most government back in the mix, and that should basically be shit frosting on the turd cake. .gov gets to expand the definition of "bad people"
anytime it wants, and we're already seeing that shit... a bunch of tyrant pols are jerking off over ERPO and things like trying to get people on arbitrary government lists (eg, like a no fly list) to
turn them all into prohibited persons....
The challenge obviously is trying to tell joe/jane averageperson why this shit is hazardous.... and then they make excuses/cop outs for hazards created by the law. Fun example
Me: "Let's say your son or daughter gets a first offense DUI in MA several years ago. They had to dump all their guns because they no longer have a legal right to possess them. Now they cannot lawfully use a firearm to defend themselves or their spouse/children because of a conviction that has nothing to do with guns....
for the rest of their life. "
Moron: "Well my kids don't drink and drive so I don't see how that's a problem. I don't either. "
Me: "So basically you're saying its OK for someone to be nearly defenseless for the rest of their life because of a crime they committed that wasn't per se, violent?"
Moron: "Well they should have thought about that when they drove under the influence. I don't care, too bad."
Me: "It doesn't bother you that government can just add onto this list of people it thinks are prohibited? First offense DUI is one, but there are countless more, and on top of it there's stuff like ERPO, 209A/restraining orders, etc... a bunch of stuff that violates due process of law that also takes lawful gun ownership away from people."
Moron: "Well if they don't want those problems then they should just stay out of trouble. Blah blah blah (statist bullshit here)"
Me:
For once I wish these idiots would have to sit and listen to someone like say, our guy Rat187, who just went through a hula hoop chicken neck jive turkey ERPO thing that was all
concocted off meaningless bullshit. You can live a pretty clean life and get whisked into this bullshit too, but joepublic NPC morons don't get this. They lack the ability to
think, even for 5 minutes....
