Can A Legitimate Case Be Made For Gun Control?

Absolutely. Just ask every psychopathic socialist dictator in history. They’ll explain it, implement it, and you get to see the end results as well.

Even if there ever was such a thing as a benevolent government that wasn't corrupt, gun control (at least at the levels which exist in most places on this planet, even the US) still otherwise creates enormous moral hazard, that's kind of what always sealed it off as being shitty, to me. You can't have gun control that stops "bad people" without creating some kind of enormous civil and human rights infringement in the process. The only thing you can (sometimes) do that isn't morally hazardous is have laws which limit how someone uses a gun legally. (and we already have tons of those, whether its self defense based, laws against assault/murder/etc, that require no real connection to guns to exist. )

Throw the malevolent by default nature of most government back in the mix, and that should basically be shit frosting on the turd cake. .gov gets to expand the definition of "bad people"
anytime it wants, and we're already seeing that shit... a bunch of tyrant pols are jerking off over ERPO and things like trying to get people on arbitrary government lists (eg, like a no fly list) to
turn them all into prohibited persons....

The challenge obviously is trying to tell joe/jane averageperson why this shit is hazardous.... and then they make excuses/cop outs for hazards created by the law. Fun example

Me: "Let's say your son or daughter gets a first offense DUI in MA several years ago. They had to dump all their guns because they no longer have a legal right to possess them. Now they cannot lawfully use a firearm to defend themselves or their spouse/children because of a conviction that has nothing to do with guns.... for the rest of their life. "

Moron: "Well my kids don't drink and drive so I don't see how that's a problem. I don't either. "

Me: "So basically you're saying its OK for someone to be nearly defenseless for the rest of their life because of a crime they committed that wasn't per se, violent?"

Moron: "Well they should have thought about that when they drove under the influence. I don't care, too bad."

Me: "It doesn't bother you that government can just add onto this list of people it thinks are prohibited? First offense DUI is one, but there are countless more, and on top of it there's stuff like ERPO, 209A/restraining orders, etc... a bunch of stuff that violates due process of law that also takes lawful gun ownership away from people."

Moron: "Well if they don't want those problems then they should just stay out of trouble. Blah blah blah (statist bullshit here)"

Me:

For once I wish these idiots would have to sit and listen to someone like say, our guy Rat187, who just went through a hula hoop chicken neck jive turkey ERPO thing that was all
concocted off meaningless bullshit. You can live a pretty clean life and get whisked into this bullshit too, but joepublic NPC morons don't get this. They lack the ability to
think, even for 5 minutes....

In reading some of the replies I'm not sure if everyone read the article but it comes to the conclusion that a legitimate case can't be made for gun control.

If the laws were applied equally to every citizen, then maybe. And that is a highly qualified maybe. As it stands, all LEO's are exempted from all gun laws in the United States. The little tin badge gives them more rights than the rest of us. In Europe, LEO's leave their guns at the station when off duty. There is no such thing as LEOSA overseas.

An obfuscated back door method is already happening guys..
You do not think that the enormous amount of data being amassed since the 80s & X1Billion times more of that these days is not utilized for the people in power & the supposed common good, I mean the wealthy want it that way.

Your vote means little. Do not kid yourself.

The wealthy do not want plebeians capable of an armed uprising as has happened in history over and over,.. since history began.
Im no well articulated poster, but firearms are being confiscated NOW.
Anyway possible, remember, I posted it here, and now.
You're on an anti-depression med? You're closer to confiscation. HIPPA guidelines are B.S!

Dr's for GunControl?

I've a couple pals that are alcoholics, one drove you around on the MBTA for 24yrs. 34E was his favorite run, 4 runs a day and done!
Another was confined to trains, after his first incident.

Another of the MBTAs bus drivers I knew license was revoked,....after their retirement,.... ONLY because they finally confided in their Dr. [thinking] they were an alcoholic!
Many I knew in that category w/the hack job MBTA saw the writing on the wall and retired in the 90s.
I'm glad I'll be dead soon.
Good luck!

As long as it is by Clint Eastwood's definition.

Is that something where only the politically connected get a license?

As he drives me back to my hotel, he expresses an affinity for another former mayor: “The best thing we could do is just get Mike Bloomberg in there.”

f*** him
Clint Eastwood is breaking his silence over the 2020 presidential hopeful he believes is best fit for office.

The 89-year-old discussed the #MeToo movement, career highlights and dished on his political views in a revealing interview with the Wall Street Journal, and it turns out Mike Bloomberg has the actor's support.

"The best thing we could do is just get Mike Bloomberg in there," Eastwood told the outlet.
He's become senile in his old age. I'll always like his movies but, like most Hollyweird ingrates, his politics have got to the dark side

Yes, for the government. We the citizens should be able to tell the government what they can have in relation to citizens.

The government should have no authority over the citizen.

No, because it has been proven that the gun grabbers will not stop until all civilian-owned firearms are confiscated and outlawed.
Any new restrictions are only more infringements and a step closer to their end goal
