I would like to see a "post-graduate" appleseed with it's main focus on the AR platform.
After all these are mostly what we will use in the upcoming insurrection...
They can be called ARppleseeds.
For Boris: AKleseed...
I think a big reason why more Appleseed shooters never progress to Highpower is because people tell them there is too much gear to buy, too many rules, to much structure, etc..
If you review my previous post, I made the offer of all the gear for a shooter's first match, so don't let that be a determining factor.
Not everybody who tries it will continue, but I guarantee 100% will not continue if they never try it in the first place.
Are there any "Lowpower" rifle competitions that don't require something like a benchrest Anshutz?
Something like a rifle course from a 3-gun match, but for .22 would be pretty neat I think. A run 'n' gun rimfire rifle match basically.
I've been out of action with a little one this summer, but I'm hoping to get back to them this fall, even if just for the last Leyden one before snow flies.
As for location...If the MA dates don't work out for you, southern/central MA folks can hit up the CT ones, western MA folks can try Coxsackie or Saratoga, and northern MA folks would do well to try the NH or VT full-range shoots, regardless.

I for one won't be attending any Appleseeds in CT. My two LTRs have "flash suppressors" that I put on to protect the muzzles in case they get loaned out to a new shooter who sticks it in the dirt.
Nor will I attend one in NY for similar reasons.
I don't see why that is a problem. The CT law is the same as the MA law when it comes to AWs and rimfires. And no mag restrictions for range use.
p.m. me if you want all the gory details.
The summary is that the revision to PA 13-3 allowed 2 evil features on a rimfire gun. The same as the original Federal AWB and the same as MA.
Don
How many mags should I stock up on and how many rounds how fast?
One other thing you will want is a shooting mat of some sort. A cheap foam sleeping pad from EMS would suffice (its what I used).
+1 to that.. or the equivalent Wal-mart pad..in sporting goods.. IIRC under $10... makes a huge difference in comfort
I have used everything from a Midway shooting mat to cardboard - and actually, think cardboard works pretty well.
I use a coat or at least long sleeve shirt....the days of t shirt shooting are over for me.Mac,
I looked at that mat and dismissed it because the pad where I put my elbows was black. Are you saying that the black didn't get hot?
I wish they made the whole mat the color of the area without the extra padding.
Does anyone have a Winterseed patch?

They did a couple of Appleseeds in Dec and Jan and gave out an Appleseed patch with icicles running down it. I tried to get my wife to go as a day together, she gave me a Go F yourself look
Here's a thread on one in NH a 3 years ago:

That's pretty cool . I thought with a Appleseed it's like you do it one time and that's it ?

Where is the nearest Appleseed held which goes out to an actual 600 yards?
The talk of .22 rifle selection reminds me that my biggest turnoff to participating in Appleseed shoots since moving to New England is that the fundamental premise -- learning 600 yard riflemanship -- is sidestepped.
I was a 600 yard shooter in the desert (with Appleseeds held at our range), so of course I understand smaller targets at shorter distances are *similar* to 600 yards, but... telling that to Appleseed students and giving them the confidence to shoot at 600 yards in an effective caliber are two different things entirely.

We do them at Jericho (northern VT) on occasion, at Dalton, NH, on occasion (out to 400), and there's a KD clinic for instructors every year (typically also Dalton, NH).
The primary reason most Appleseed here is at shorter distances is range availability. Some clubs (e.g. Leyden) have the facilities to shoot at 1-200 yards, where a .22 will teach you a lot about drop and wind, and the Leyden shoots always include shooting KD for anyone who's grouping acceptably (<8 MOA) at 25M. Harvard's longer-ranges are restricted to qualified club members.
If you know of a club in the Northeast that would be willing to host a KD Appleseed, put us in touch with them ([email protected], [email protected], etc as appropriate). We'd love to make it happen.
If there are a bunch of people interested, let me know and I'll see if I can put something together. There are enough AS instructors around who know their way around ARs, and there's probably enough material to adapt into a practical 1-Day.
