Appleseed Project

My wife and I went to an Appleseed in Simsbury, CT at the end of July. We're going to another SOON. We had a lot of fun.

She had only picked up a rifle twice in the past 25 years and had no real training those two times. On Sunday, she was shooting sharpshooter scores. I missed "Rifleman," an expert score by a few points. Before the Appleseed, I had no hope of shooting a sharpshooter score, certainly not a whole bunch of them, which I did.

YOU WILL WANT TO GO TO ANOTHER APPLESEED, which should be it's biggest recommendation.

Just so everybody knows, still a LOT of room on the line at Jericho this weekend.

Long ways for folks from Mass to travel, but camping is free, and it is Full Distance. We'll get you out to 400 yards for sure, and hopefully to 600 yards on Sunday.

A pistol is there to get you to your rifle.

A sniper is not a normal soldier.

And, there just isn't the time available to teach handguns at a rifle program, and do it justice. As it is, we're TIGHT on time already.

Consider that normal "round counts" for an Appleseed weekend in the Northeast is anywhere from 600-850 rounds for 2 days, with the highest I've heard yet being right at 1100 rounds (3 days). That doesn't leave much, if any, time, and what time we found would be used to cover more rifle material.

Pistol training is best done by pistol specialists. Rifle training is best done by rifle specialists.

Guys,

You're missing my point.

I'm saying do a pistol only appleseed with targets similar to what is used for rifle except scaled bigger for the pistol

Teach people pistol marksmanship as you teach rifle marksmanship

It would be a good way to prep for the above mentioned events which are more about shooting and scooting and rapid target acquisition.

Gotta walk before you can run, you know? Carry on.

No, Mike, it is you that is missing the point.

We're a rifle marksmanship and heritage training program, a ntional level 501(c)3 Non-Profit organization.

We're all over the country.

Pistols aren't our thing.

Other people locally do pistols.

And, it isn't going to happen. Dead issue.

You must not know much about the program, because we don't teach tactical shooting, we teach basics.

Now, I'll tell you the basics apply to both rifles and pistols, but, I'll add that we still aren't going to teach pistol shooting.

We're not anti-pistol, we just flat out don't have the TIME to spend there, and others do. They are your source for this.

If you can, GO!!!!!!!!!!

it is a great program, Nickle runs a god shoot, CRAK too.

I went to Jericho in 2007, it was great! Beautiful range, great people, 600 yards, baby!

One of my friends went, he had no formal training he went from shotgun patterns to solid hits at 400 yards. Didn't quite get Rifleman (I did! :) )

I wish I had time, I'd become an instructor. I LOVE rifle shooting. When I was 22 I was a Drill Sergeant, the PMI for my Infantry Training Battalion, and I shot on my divisions rifle team. I would be PROUD to be an instructor for them, circumstances permitting.

GET THEE TO AN APPLESEED! I don't care if you are the Jeff Gordon of rifle shooting, you'll be a better marksman for it.
