I think they purposefully oversimply the statistic that rate of deaths in school shootings is 2.38x higher when a SRO is present. It's a correlation without causation.

1. School shooters target schools with SROs preferentially? Of course not. Mass killers attempt to minimize chances of early termination by armed defenders.
2. SROs slow the response to mass shooters? Of course not. Even if one focuses on Parkland & Uvalde, if there was no SRO, things would not have gone better.

Wait. So I keep hearing assault rifles are the problem for Mass shootings but this chart shows 1966 which was pre assault rifles. That term was made up in the early 90s.

also, not many semi automatic pistols around in 1966 were there? I know 1911, Luger, hi power, ppk and some others but not many in private hands were there?

47 at 4+ in 2022 as of 12/2/2022, just EXACTLY 1 per weekend so far, on the average. But many who get a "mere flesh-wounds" probably don't make the count.

"Assault Rifle" can't possibly have been "made up" as a term in the 90s if Boston passed an AWB in '89. Not to mention, the classification was already being used to describe similar arms when we transitioned to the M16.

Being cute about semantics doesn't help anybody. It's even worse when we're wrong about it.
