A friend of mine just contacted me with a question, and I'm not sure how to answer it. I was hoping someone on here could give me a hand with some advice. Here is the situation:

so a mutual friend of ours, you know whom, has in his possession a fire arm (pistol) he legally bought in another state (CA, 15 years ago), he brought it with him to mass (gun has been in MA for 1.8 years), and now he will be moving away.

he wants to get rid of this thing, just turn it in to somebody and not get in trouble, he just wants it gone, do you know how he could go about doing this?

The gun in question has never been used in a crime or anything

nor does he want to sell it

he just wants it off his hands

Person is not legally licensed to own in MA

Any thoughts? Gun buyback? Turn it into police? Throw it in a river? [wink]

Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Have a friend with a permit escort him to a local FFL and sell it. If your friend insists on not wanting anything for it then send the cash to me.

If it's a POS (lorcin, jennings, etc, other junker not worth transfer fee) then tell him to bring it to a gun buyback.

If it's actually worth something, I'd do as icyclefar suggests...someone should escort him to an FFL to effect a transfer, assuming it can be transferred in MA.

Is he moving to a free state? If so, why doesn't he just disassemble it, bury it in the luggage, and drive away with it?

As soon as he crosses out of MA, he's good to go.

PS. Don't speed.
