Hey there NES Happy New Year Thought I would share a story that happened to a family member of mine yesterday.(new years eve). My family member is a armed security officer that carries a Xds 9mm 4.0 for a national grocery chain that I wont mention. At 17:30 while he was in the store he was pushing a grocery cart with money in the cart with one of the store employees when a gentleman stopped in front him causing my family member to run into his back heel with the shopping cart the man became enraged and started swearing my family member then apologized and started that the guy suddenly stopped and it happened so fast that he could not have avoided it and he apologized the guy refused to accept the apology and started getting irate. thankfully the other security officer came in to diffuse the situation and escort the guy out of the store. At 18:05 my family member exited the store walking to the parking lot when the customer from earlier saw him spotted him the customer threw two throwing knives at him never even seeing what was coming for him the knife immediately made his arm freeze up at which my family member pulled his Xds out and told the guy to back up or he would shoot it was then he tried to chamber a round and because he was not able to fully hold the safety device in the back of his firearm the slide would not rack back thankfully the guy ran off this is very sad but a lesson learned that if you have a LTC with no restrictions and you carry you should always carry with a round in the chamber and also might want to think about having a Xds as a carry gun since they have crazy safety features but as always stay safe and always be aware of your surroundings.

This is a long presentation with a sales pitch at the end. I'm not endorsing it or suggesting anyone buy it. I might buy it as it seems some good suggestions for defense with a firearm....they go on to analyse why a cop was shot and killed in the line of duty after he put one .40 center mass on the perp out of one mag at close range and they explain why the cop was unable to reload... It is scary and made a lot of sense to me. Perhaps this was the phenomenon that happened to your family member.

I was always taught there is no excuse for rear-ending somebody. Youre either following too close, going too fast, not paying attention, or some combination of those. Doesnt justify having knives thrown at you, but paying attention to what youre doing helps avoid a lot of problems.

Your friend caused a confrontation that the offended party escalated, eventually to knifing your friend. He then displayed his gun but could not fire it due to lack of training. The knifer ran off.

Got it.

I would urge your friend to practice handing his firearm more and work on strategies to stay distant from others while transporting money. His next attacker might actually want to hurt him and steal the money!

punctuation can be your friend

Seriously...that was unreadable.[hmmm]

Second row up from the bottom of your keyboard, almost all the way over to the right is your period "end of sentence" key.

Bro, it's an hour long. Cliff's notes, please.

Lol, I know. I bailed after a while. Practice, practice, practice, develop muscle memory, be aware, avoid situations if possible. Never made it to the pitch at the end. They used the vid of the cop in GA I believe that stopped the nutjob who ended up killing him with an M1 carbine he had in his truck.

Depending on the gun and the sights on that gun you could rack the slide by hooking the sights on your belt pocket or shoe a Glock with night sights is great to do that with but not the cheap plastic sights because they can fall off did your friend get hit with the throwing knife if so and was about to be hit with another I think that lethal force could have been justified period

FIFY (added the period) [laugh]

lmao...it is...good info. though. Training to hit target is all we will be able to do if that is all we practice.

Train tactically.....empty mags fast onto target and reload and continue firing. Fire until the threat is neutralized. One shot one kill isn't going to work in most situations. The perp in this case was hit center mass with a .40 and was found in the wood alive 24 hours later. He survived and is now on death row for killing the cop.

Fight or flight aren't the only two things that happen to us in a confrontation...it is fight or flight or freeze. In this instance the cop emptied his gun and froze. probably because he didn't train to drop mag and reload. Speculation though because he is dead and we cannot ask him. emptied a whole mag at a relatively close distance and only score one non-lethal hit.

Aiming though your sights in a gun fight probably isn't going to happen. You have to practice putting rounds on target without specific aim or more of a point and shoot.

The Three pillars to training....

Mindset - situational awareness, 76% of attacks the first awareness the victim has is after they've been attacked. The rest of the time you will have about three seconds to determine fight, flight or de-escalate.

Skills - Train to put your target down. draw and move and shoot and drop mag and reload and continue firing into your target as quickly as you can. The threat to you isn't over until your target is neutralized (dead)

Tools - find the right gun and ammo and other necessary gear to ensure quick access to your concealed carry piece. Always carry extra mags and rounds.

Overall, very interesting. Offers a different way to train rather than taking 10 to 30 seconds or more per shot from a bench.

Longest sentence ever on NES,I am sure of it.

Chamber a round? FAIL big time.

This, this, this, this, this, this, this, this, and this. (yes, I counted how many statements I agree with).

Your family member was met face-to-face with a douchebag, but he needs more situational awareness and more practice/training.

agreed. as a sidenote, this is why I like guns where the trigger and external safety are one and the same, at least for carry purposes.

then he tried to chamber a round and because he was not able to fully hold the safety device in the back of his firearm the slide would not rack back thankfully
Karma for carrying a gun the AG thinks is unsafe [frown]
