The deal was at one point it was an unlimited warranty and marketed as such and people bought cans under that. Recently, they have changed to a limited warranty and basically blanket covered it for all previous cans that were once unlimited without letting customers know.
There are several companies today that provided a warranty on their cans that no matter what happens, defect, user error, they would repair / replace the can at least once. This is built into the price of the can as they are closer to the $1000 mark than the $400 mark.
Even if YHM moving forward with all the new cans has a limited warranty - that's fine - The buyer would know at the time of purchase. To change the warranty on previously purchased cans is a go no. The NFA community will not let shit like that go and it will reflect on how much business YHM does.
I personally use their mounts on all my cans but none of their cans. I almost bought a Turbo-K for under $400 because that's a killer price but the details kept me from doing it. The same $100 dealer fee and $200 stamp regardless of what can you buy, I personally rather spend a little more money for a can that has better warranty behind it.
Again, non of the YHMs cans are super expensive and are sub $400 compared to some others and that's where the money / warranty comes into play. Do some people abuse it, of course but when it cost $100 transfer, $200 stamp and 9-12 months (before eForm 4) - Who is going to do that just to inconvenience themselves? The cost to transfer and stamp is what a new can costs.
Also, in the end YHM did warranty this person's can due to to it being a "manufacture defect" that the baffles were not lined up to begin with. The person who had got a replacement is good now. The whole incident brought into the spotlight the recent change in their warranty. YHM did the right thing and took care of the customer. Even bad press is good press. Now people know.
