The team I'm on for the PMC is going to do a fairly long ride from West Falmouth, take the ferry to MV, ride around the whole island and then take the ferry back to West Falmouth. About 80 miles in total. When I ride I've been carry my Keltec P3AT in the center pocket of my riding jersey. Can't even see it.

Was just wondering though if there's any issues, search, etc' before you get on the ferry. I'm figuring probably not, but I've never been on the ferry before. Never been on MV before, so this should be interesting.

Some of you may ask why I need to CCW when I'm biking in a group. Well, if you ever get a chance to see me and my team ride past you wearing the most uncool light blue, yellow and white cycling kit you'll know why. Plus if you see us, you are the most unluckiest SOB on the planet. Yeah, it's that bad. But, it's still better then the Obama Hope team kit the first team I joined were wearing. [smile]

Do a search of the forum "ferry" might be a good key word. I seem to recall a thread some months ago. IIRC, there are some rules and if I'm right, you can transport it legally but not carry on the ferry.

Not certain and haven't been on any of the ferries in close to 30 years, so check the info out . . . my info may be bad, I really don't know for certain.

i asked the same thing a month or two back since im headed there for my honeymoon in a month. all feedback said ccw and enjoy my trip

I never had any problems on the ACK / HYA ferry.
Security can be a bit more thorough on the fast ferries.
I sometimes see firearms cases in the Purser"s cabin, seems as though he is the one watching them during the trip.

I've been going with the family every year and have yet to have a problem. A few years back two kids from CT called in a bomb threat to extend their vacations. All they did was check under the hood. The ferry was escorted in to Woods Hole by a coast guard boat.

they will most likely ask that you surrender it to the captain or pursar for the duration of the trip.
I took several rifles and shotguns on a Steamship Authority ferry (without any car) to Nantucket. They had a crew member take the cases up to wheel house and deliver them to us when we arrived - much easier than checking luggage on one of the carts they use and finding it upon arrival. Totally friendly and courteous treatment in both directions.

Alternatively, you could notify the captain your services are available if pirates attempt to board :)

Yeah, because there's pirates all over Nantucket Sound! [laugh][wink]

I've yet to be asked about firearms, or searched upon boarding the boat to either island. So my take would be, concealed means concealed; don't ask, don't tell.
