What guns do you bring... in 1920?

Another coronavirus stir crazy thread. The year is 1920. You've decided to leave dreary old New England in exchange for some adventure in a remote place like Alaska, Southern Rhodesia, Kenya, or Burma. You've sold everything you own and can buy whatever you want within reason. Gun laws aren't a concern. WW1 surplus guns are flooding the used market. But you can only bring one long gun and one handgun.

I'm going with a Mauser 98 sporter in 7x57 and a C96 in 7.63x25.

I'm assuming a Lewis gun is not "within reason" for a long gun.

For a pistol I'm taking a Webley-Fosbery Automatic Revolver.

For a rifle, I'll go with the Swedish m94:

Honorable mentions with a Steyr M1912:

And a Jezail musket:

SAA and a caliber matching Winchester lever gun. Make it easy to have sufficient ammunition available

If it was 1928 I’d go Thomson and 1911.

1903
1911
1903 Springfield and a Colt 1911.
I have both and use both now. I carry the Colt when I'm in the woods. I have a few '03s and my favorite is dad's "Sedgley". Beautiful gun.
But to be different, my uncle' s 30/40 Krag (sporterized) and a Colt New Service revolver in 45 Long Colt.

Sounds like a bug out scenario?

1911 for sure to cover the handgun.

BAR is way too heavy. As a Ssgt. in the Philippines, Gramps was issued a BAR but immediately swapped for a M1 Garand. Up and down mountains, especially jungle mountains, isn't the place to carry a BAR. Since it's 1920, I'd go for a 1903 National Match.

I picture more like a "I want to see the dangerous, untamed parts of the world" situation, but that works. Back when that was possible.

I'll see you fools in hell.

They see me rollin', they hatin'...

1918 M1903 Springfield and a 1914 colt m1911...turns out i was even ‘basic’ back then.

I just like shit that works. Common calibers seems to be a theme too...I bet the US .gov had millions of each somewhere.

...Except that in 1920 the world was still more British than American. "Common calibers" were .455 and .303.

Even Indiana Jones ended up with a Webley by the third movie. And even in the first two, the revolver was his go-to. His backup was an auto.
