Jose M. Romero, 27, of Hartford, charged with possession of a firearm without a firearm ID card and carrying a firearm without a license, sentenced to two concurrent terms of nine months in the House of Correction.

Can any of our legal eagles explain why he got 9 months instead of 1 year for the 1st charge, which I believe is Bartley-Fox? And while I understand how is possession different from carrying, is it normal to be charged with both if you're caught with a gun and don't have a permit?

While he ended up getting more than the 1 year B-F sentence, it seems like he should have gotten much more.

You have to actually charge the criminal to get the sentence. Real criminals get all the 'foo-foo' charges like B-F dropped as part of the plea bargain and then get a slap on the wrist because there is no room in the prisons.

He'll be out in far less than 9 months.
