Wandering handguard

I have noticed the handguard on top of my M91/30 will begin to travel forward after a few shots and eventually works all the way up to the front sight. It has split barrel bands which seem to be tight. I'm not comfortable shooting it this way. Anybody have any ideas to correct this ?

Thats a comon problem with Mosins. You could try a small wooden shim to snug it to the barrel but it may affect your accuracy, or it may improve it. I've taken a lot of rifles apart and found wooden shims under handguards, under barrels, etc. They're usually put in place at the armory where they thought the fit was poor.

The Finns fixed it by putting screws through the rings.
