True "value" of a pre-ban mags

OK, I'll bite. What would that be?

I'm not aware of any. With 33rd 9mm mags available, what would be the point? If the mag tube is damaged, you could repair the magazine...
For those of us here in MA, 15 and 17 rounders are a lot more common than the preban 33s. A plus 15 on a 17 round mag would open up our options a lot.

I realize this this is not the reality in most places.

There are plenty of 9mm drum options though if you really want more capacity. Perhaps if the existing 9mm options had lower capacity there would be a need for a large extension. Or perhaps there is a market with an unfulfilled need? 3D printer anyone?

If you've got a pban mag, what's unlawful about repairing it with a longer mag tube & spring from a 33rd?

Not supported under MGL. BATFE interpretations of AWB law don't apply to MA, or at least it's never been tested in a court of law here.

So those afraid of their own shadow shouldn't do this.

Frankly if you're going to go by that logic just use whatever mag you want, because it's likely that it will be considered "just as illegal" [laugh]

I always thought that in MA the mag tube is the only part you can't replace (spring, follower, and base plate being ok to replace).

In MA the law is completely silent on all of that.

What pupchow is probably talking about is in the distant past a former FRB director under romney had a conversation via email with another member here and she said that replacing tubes would be acceptable if he destroyed the old ones and kept the old ones (remnants) as evidence of such replacement, but those opinions are not legally binding. I would wager that some variant of that was also supported by BATFE at one time, not that it actually mattered, because I don't think the feds ever prosecuted anyone for using an "illegal" magazine anyways.

I don't think that the Compact came out before the ban, so my guess would be no. But that's all it is, a guess.

I'm not totally conversant in CZ75s, so unsure what the Compact is.

What I can offer is that I have a Sphinx AT2000P in .40S&W. It is a CZ75B knock-off, albeit a very expensive and rare one. Mine was imported (mfd in Switzerland) in the 1970s and it takes CZ75B (or CZ75 Compact, it was so long ago that I can't remember, sorry) mags. So if the Compact uses the same mags (I don't know) then there indeed would be pre-ban mags that fit the gun.

I just looked up the CZ-75 Compact in my Blue Book and it seems that it was mfd starting in 1993, so there should be some pre-ban mags out there. Finding them and ID'g pre-ban from post-ban might be quite the challenge however.

Here are some links to specialized CZ forums where you might be able to find out more good info on what's available, how to tell pre-ban from post-ban and where you might source them:

Nobody knows.

The BATFE offers a service where an in-duh-vidual or business can obtain a binding opinion on legality before embarking on a venture to make something. MA not only offers no such service, the AGs office refuses to answer any "do you consider this legal" questions, responding with "hire an attorney to tell you, we will prosecute if we disagree".

INNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNTERESTING.

Thanks Len! That is pretty big, actually. I have been running down some mags for the full size, but if I could find even one or two for the compact that would be huge!
