Supreme Court - NYSRPA v. Bruen - Megathread

"We could, in theory substitute "pays taxes" for owning land or practicing a trade. Those on any form of government assistance forfeit the right to vote. If they return to being taxpayers their right to vote is restored. Heinlein proposed some form of government service such as military, peace corps, civilian construction corps, etc., to qualify."

You are correct but it would never fly, leftists depend on the dependent citizens to stay in power.

People are more likely to react (vote) to feelings than to facts.

It is the reason why people work to control names because if you can switch between one with an emotional element and one with out or back, you can control how many emotional votes you get. Death Tax - Inheritance Tax, Illegal Immigrant - Undocumented Immigrant,
Illegal ALIEN! They even got you trained.

"Foreign invasion advance scout" works better.

I mentioned this to a friend of mine over the weekend. She and her daughter (both adults) were talking about the women and children at the border. Keep in mind that the daughter is very conservative, her mom a bit less so. The mom is from Canada originally and it took me about 20 years of knowing her to finally get her to leave behind her Canadian ways. In fact, she finally became a US Citizen in 2012 just so she could vote against Obama.

That was just for background, back to my story.

They were talking about feeling bad about the women and children when I pointed out that the vast majority of "orphans" all seemed to be adult males between their late teens and early 30s. "That's the same age range as most military service members." I told them. I also mentioned on that on their way here, those adult males stole food and money from the women and children and raped the women and girls for sport.

I'm not sure that they absorbed that right away because they both had shocked expressions.

These are NOT immigrants or even aliens. They are invaders intent colonizing new territory. Given the chance, they will remove us from our country.

Illegal ALIEN! They even got you trained.

Using your criteria would a veteran who fought for the country, comes home with missing legs but lives on government assistance lose the right to vote?

See Gary's reply.
If you are a non-participating "citizen" who chooses not to work and chooses to live off the govt. (us) then you should not be able to vote.

Okay so a disabled veteran no vote if they take any benefits. A person born blind, no vote if they take any benefits. A person who gets injured in a motorcycle accident and is a quadriplegic gets no vote if they take benefits. A guy who worked his whole life and can no longer work anymore due to a work related injury no vote, provided they accept any benefits. Sounds like a fair system....... in another universe.

But what @SFC13557 said was " who chooses not to work " and all your examples are ones where choice was not involved. Just as I would take your words to have meaning, I have to assume he chose the word "choose" for a reason.

You are either being obtuse or just arguing for arguments sake. Either way I'm done with you. Bless your heart and good luck.

Sure, but who adjudicates whether that “choice” is valid? Some government bureaucracy, presumably?

We’ve gone past illegal aliens, illegal immigrants and undocumented immigrants to “migrants” - people who naturally migrate across man-made borders. Open Borders is thus a Natural Right (according to those who say self-defense is neither a right nor a government-granted privilege of citizens).

EDIT: I’m behind on my terminology- International Migrants is the current vocabulary. Is there another kind than International?

A jury of your peers ;)
That is the problem.
The inability to determine who truly can't contribute, coupled with the many dishonest people, and the Gov not wanting to make hard, potentially unfair, decisions, leads us to a system where assistance is given away to everyone.

Sure, people migrate from one part of the country to another. Think about the people leaving California and moving to Texas.

I think it's curious how "a line on a map" is either completely irrelevant or 100% critical depending on context. Gun laws? Irrelevant. Migration? Most important thing ever.

Who decides what chooses not to work looks like? Because I can sit here and come up with a thousand edge cases that break any rule that anyone can imagine. If he's talking about the tiny band of socialists then possibly, but it's going to be nearly nothing. To understand the world of communism and socialism you have to go into their world and in their world, work and having a job is still important. They want the money so they can use the money to peddle more communism. It's a means to an end for them.

LOL

I recall on "another gun board" there were people there that were adamant that only landholders could vote. Or should be allowed to vote. Tehn they got to the point of "well, you need so much land to vote. In fact, your vote should be commensurate with your landholdings." [rofl] [rofl] [rofl]

They thought they were freedom but it turns out they wanted a feudal system of government. LOL. Basically, they thought that they could game around giving people they didn't like the right to vote.

As wrong as it may seem at times, I will always fight that the scum of this country have a RIGHT to vote. And carry a gun. And say what they want. It's the price of freedom for the rest of us.

Exactly! While US citizens move from state to state, their civil rights largely follow them, even if conditioned by state laws. We’re quite attuned to gun laws, which continue to level out across the country, but all sorts of licensing and permitting schemes condition free exercise of our everyday activities. The notion that the rights of citizenship transact to anyone capable of crossing the southern border is being reinforced in many ways.

California is the extreme example of states gone wild, largely conflating residency with citizenship. Illegals flock to CA, gaining sufficient welfare aid to survive and send $$$Billions annually in earnings back across the southern border, with 2+ generations of US-born offspring as citizens adding to the welfare drain. Granted, most of these newly minted US citizens are moving towards becoming productive citizens, but the cost of doing so in CA is atrocious. The have-nots population is CA is climbing as the haves population is jumping to TX, FL, etc.

While the Free-State Project brought many libertarians to NH, CA infused their electorate with new Democrats by facilitating illegal immigration. Many are now jumping CA for TX/FL, etc., to reinforce traditional family values in those states, but CA is spiraling down. The devastating bailouts will damage the US horribly…

Yeah, I think we had a war about just that point some 250 years ago… But that’s all White Supremacist stuff now.

The Bill of Rights is not a suicide pact. They will laugh as they kill you, your children, and take everything you own.

LOL

Benetiz is so much smarter and more versed on these cases than the state of California’s lawyers, he seems to amuse himself getting the CA lawyer to punch himself in the face. A nice thing Benetiz is doing in these hearings is calling out all the lies about statistics, laws, etc the state keeps including in their briefs and in arguments. My only knowledge of Benetiz is with these 2A cases over the past 5 years but in these cases, how he handles them is the exact way all judges should handle any case. He’s very knowledgeable, fair and follows the law and constitution.

These clips are funny. State how about…. Judge no…maybe this. Judge No no no no.

I like he calls out the “expert” bs. These are partisans on each side, we know exactly what they’ll say so it’s a waste of the courts time.
