Mayor Menino working on way to get illegal guns off streets

BOSTON -- Mayor Menino wants guns off the streets.

He's now joined other mayors in the fight.

City officials from seven northeast states met in Boston yesterday to take part in a regional conference.

The group is working to develop ways to get illegal guns off the streets.

"It's not about the 2nd amendment because we are targeting the 1 percent of rogue dealers who are the source of nearly 60 percent of gun crimes nationwide," said Menino.

Thursday's meeting follows a similar nation-wide conference when 118 mayors from 44 states gathered back in April.
