She said she wanted a pet for v day.

We once had a female Wood Duck in our chimney. Had to take apart a full 55 gallon fish tank on the hearth inorder to get at it. Opened the front door, removed the flue and out flies the Woodie. It went right out the door. I went up on the roof that very day and duck proofed the chimney.

Many years ago we had the same thing (Wood Duck) in our fireplace. We had glass doors on it and we started hearing noises coming from the fireplace. I got concerned that it was a squirrel or raccoon and wasn't looking forward to trying to remove it. I finally opened the doors slowly and looked in with a flashlight and thought I saw something with feathers behind the logs sitting in the grate. It turned out to be a duck, so I just grabbed it as gently as I could, brought it right out the front door and set it on the ground. It flew away seconds later and we never had anything else wind up in the chimney or fireplace since.
