RIP Vermont: update the restrictions passed the House

Heartbreaking for gun owners in VT. Mass, RI, and CT, we've been dealing with the anti crap for as long as I can remember but VT, NH and Maine were the gold standard and just like that poof!! VT joined southern New England. Sad sad day

This is terrible news and wouldn’t wish Massification upon anyone.

What gets me is how these legislators let one shit scenario trump a >200 year history of freedom.
The push for gun control legislation came after Vermont police broke up what they said was a plot by a Poultney teenager to shoot up the Fair Haven Union High School.

I’m lost on this. It’s like making one late payment dictate your entire perfect credit history.

Doesn't this violate the VT Constitution? Not that gun grabbers care about such things.
How about article 6 that all officers legislative and executive are servants to the people. ( population of VT 630k or so, 175k gun owners or so?) Think they might have some pull?
Although the "gov" might use article 7, you know for the safety of everyone. To do what they wish.
Article 16 , what's that oh and what about all the standing army BS what do we call DHS?

Our reaction to all of this down at the VCDL

Is it going to pass the Senate as amended? Will the Governor sign it?

Everyone that lives in VT should be calling, if you have friends or relatives that live in VT - tell them to call.
My guess is he will, from his home page

Governor Phil Scott became the 82nd Governor of Vermont on January 5, 2017. He previously served three terms as Vermont’s Lieutenant Governor, and as a Senator for Washington County. As Governor, he has committed to making a difference in the lives of Vermonters by growing the state’s economy, making Vermont more affordable, protecting the most vulnerable and restoring faith and trust in government

The fact he's saying restore faith and trust in government he will sign it before it hits the desk.....that's just my feelings.

It took 3 quick strikes to do this brain damage to Vermont:

1) Las Vegas,
2) Parkland, and, most significantly,
3) Nutcase VT kid Jack Sawyer and his plan to attack a VT school

I wish I could say it surprises me, but it doesn't... not at all. This is the state of Bernie Sanders... and Howard Dean. Vermont is a nice place to visit, but I could never in a million years live up there. The liberalism/socialism is worse than MA, or at least has been on all but 2A rights (a true anomaly)... up until now.

I am only shocked that it happened so fast and like it did. But I am not surprised that VT liberals finally woke up and decided to show a little consistency with their leftist brethren from neighboring anti-2A states.

There are many parts of VT that are very much libertarian, unfortunately 1 active liberal > 100 passive libertarians when it comes to legislation.

Stay frosty NH.

A few weeks ago the guv was all about no new laws. I'm not hopeful, but it's all I have to go on.

The day after a 19-year-old gunman killed 17 students at a Florida high school, Gov. Phil Scott defended Vermont's permissive gun laws and rejected calls for new restrictions.

"We’re fortunate we’re one of the safest states in the country, and I believe our gun laws are balanced," the first-term Republican said Thursday afternoon. "They balance public safety with our rights."

Rather than limiting access to firearms, Scott said the state should focus on providing more training and drills in schools so that staff and students can prepare for active-shooter situations.

"We should do more [training], and certainly we should be vigilant at this point in time," Scott said, citing concerns about "copycat" shootings in the wake of the Florida massacre.

After Florida Shooting, Vermont Governor Says No New Gun Laws

I've said here before that Vermont is a beautiful place to live if you like a rural lifestyle, but it is slowly being destroyed by liberal politics and welfare. Never mind the fact that the state has some real economic problems that are going to be catching up soon.

If Scott signs this he's sure to be a one-and-done governor. The Dem candidate that he defeated in the governors race made gun control a campaign issue and she lost.

The left doesn't have political squishes. They are proud to fly the freak flag and say "f*** YOU NORMALS!". GOP needs to grow a spine and say, "NO" whenever the left decides to start calling them names rather than rolling over.

Pretty good. Except several times he used the words "safe" and "safety" as if these laws would actually accomplish that. I think it would have been better if he, for instance, said "feel safe" or "apparent safety".

And using a Constitutional argument is pretty much preaching to the choir (us) - the folks passing, and accepting, these laws don't really give a sh*t about the Constitution.

Did VT ban all mags over 10 rounds, or is there a 'preban' clause? Not seeing any details for this.

CMP Vermont Games at Camp Ethan Allen are an awesome time & the High Power competition is one of the highlights. Being from Mass, I have the ugly-@ss 20-round prebans to be Mass legal as well as High Power 'legal'. Has VT gone full-Cali-retard and banned everything over 10?
