I'm looking for an arbor type boresight / collimator. I seem to be in constant search for the perfect optic. The big issue for me is I've lost about 50% of the sight in my right eye. I finally found a good specialist and right now things are stable but I'm having issues with reticle clarity, and the brightness (or lack of) on dot style sights.

Apparently most retailers offer the same arbor type boresight and the reviews are all over the place. I know I don't want a magnetic mount and I've tried several laser style boresights - don't want that either.

Looking for real use experience, not "I read a review on... ".

What do you use ?

My budget is about 100 bucks, I don't want to spend much more (I need ammo too ! [laugh] ) But I really don't want to buy crap either.

May I ask why you need one? Are you setting up all your guns with scopes and just want to speed up the process.
The only one I ever used was a bushnell. Its one of the items that seems to have vanished over the 15 years I was not active shooting. I was hoping it would turn up some day. It worked but I say it was no better than my dads system. Which is like this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vbH0pAyTpLg
With a new scope start at close yardage so you can see. Move out and check your. Zero dependending where you want your zero.
I say save the 100$ get some good eyes to help you out. Until you get zero'd

Ps looking at today's technology doesn't really seem to have changed since the past... at least the bushnell model.

<snip>

Some scopes or dot sight just don't work for me because I cannot see the reticle clearly or the dot might not be bright enough. I need to run an optic on all long arms I have and yes, I want to speed up the process. I know how to sight in a rifle, facilitating the process is my intent.

The bushnell I had was not much different than what I see advertised today. The same model seems to be going around with different manufactures name on it.
In axnut shell this is what I had http://www.shopbushnell.com/detail/BSN+743333 I think the case was brown though. In thinking Back this might not do well with some of the big objective lensed scopes.
Although my eyes are not that bad yet I too am slowly scoping my guns also. I cant really use typical not h and post well. Peep sights I'm sneaking buy.
I reverted back to basic 30/30 style reticle on some. I like the map 6 reticle of the hawke brand scopes. Good luck. Maybe you can borrow one. If I had mine I would mail it out to you.
Just a note: my dad picked ours up years ago at a gun show. Back then we put the little 5/8" tubes on all our 22s. It does save time and get you on paper a tad faster.

Yeah, seems to be all that I'm finding, that and the magnetic mount (which I won't bother with).

Greatly appreciate the offer but this is something I feel I need as the collection seems to be growing once again. [smile]

I had some doubts about the magnetic Wheeler Engineering Laser Bore Sighter, but it's performed well for me on various arms. I've got the green version, and it's highly visible @ 25 yds. It's $125 w/free shipping @ Amaz0n right now.
