Only interesting b/c Gov Pataki was on O'Reilly last night regarding NY trying to pass Jessica's Law (A law to help protect children from pedophiles). He used his time as an opportunity to highlight this issue as well.

Why they hate bayonets and muzzle breaks so is beyond me. [roll]

AN ACT to amend the penal law and the general business law, in relation to banning the possession, sale or manufacture of assault weapons and to repeal subdivision 22 of section 265.00 of the penal law relating thereto

THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEW YORK, REPRESENTED IN SENATE AND ASSEM- BLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS:

1 Section 1. The New York state legislature finds that semi-automatic 2 assault weapons are military-style guns designed to allow rapid and 3 accurate spray firing for the quick and efficient killing of humans. The 4 shooter can simply point - as opposed to carefully aim - the weapon to 5 quickly spray a wide area with a hail of bullets. Gun manufacturers have 6 for many years made, marketed and sold to civilians semi-automatic 7 versions of military assault weapons designed with features specifically 8 intended to increase lethality for military applications. As a result, 9 approximately 2,000,000 assault weapons are currently in circulation in 10 the United States. These weapons have been the weapon of choice in the 11 most notorious mass shootings of innocent civilians in the United 12 States, including the 1999 massacre at Columbine High School (TEC-DC9 13 assault pistol and Hi-Point Carbine) and the 2002 Washington, D.C.-area 14 sniper shootings (Bushmaster XM15 assault rifle). According to FBI data, 15 between 1998 and 2001, one in five law enforcement officers slain in the 16 line of duty was killed with an assault weapon. In 2003, New York lost 17 two of its finest when undercover officers in the elite Firearms Inves- 18 tigation Unit of the NYPD Organized Crime Control Bureau were brutally 19 murdered while attempting to purchase an illegal TEC-9 semi-automatic

Firepower's expensive, addictive & 'glamorous'

BY TONY SCLAFANI
DAILY NEWS POLICE BUREAU

Cops examine scene in East Flatbush, Brooklyn, where Damian Henry, allegedly toting an Uzi, fell after being shot by cops.

Life may be cheap to the thugs that use them, but Uzis are one of most the expensive assault weapons slithering back onto city streets.
The killer guns can run up to $5,000 on the black market - double the cost to buy them legally down South, law enforcement sources say.

The boxy, lightweight weapon costs a lot more than most guns, and it's hard to conceal.

But some, like alleged shooter Damian Henry, who is charged with firing an Uzi at two Brooklyn cops Saturday, apparently can't stay away from the rapid-fire weapons.

"It's the awe of it. They see it in rap videos," said one investigator said. "It's for all the glamour."

Although an Uzi can hold up to 32 rounds - like the one Henry allegedly fired - some thugs choose from a menu ofsmaller firearms that pour in from other states with more lenient gun laws, cops said.

Cheaper versions of the Israeli-made Uzi are coveted here, like the U.S.-made Mac-10s and Mac-11s usually trafficked in from Georgia and Florida, the sources said.

"Mac-10s are more popular, and they're only a few hundred dollars down South," a police source said. "Everything is going to come from down South, Pennsylvania or Ohio."

Dangerous military-style weapons, like the automatic Uzi first used by the Israeli Army in the 1950s, have been returning to the city's streets since a federal ban on assault weapons expired in 2004, experts say.

Last month, cops took notice when an alleged Manhattan drug dealer was busted for selling high-powered rifles out of his Stuyvesant Town pad, including an Uzi semiautomatic.

"It's kind of scary," one cop said. "But it's out there, and you've got to be prepared for it any minute."

In 2005, 3,928 illegal guns were seized by the NYPD, up 2.55% from 2004 when 3,830 guns were recovered.

"We need to reinstill the fear of the law and the fear of authority in these career criminals, who don't think twice about shooting at a police officer," Patrolmen's Benevolent Association President Patrick Lynch said over the weekend.

It has already passed the assembly, and has been transferred to the Senate for approval, which would be the last step before the Governor's desk. But is has been approved by the assembly before and shot down by the Senate last year. The Senate has been slightly more conservative than the assembly, but not by much. If you live in NY, it is time to contact your State Senator, and tell them how much you disagree with this.

I was shooting my Glenfeild Mod 60 at MRA the other day and I was pullin the trigger as fast as I could and the group at about 15 yards was about the size of a large Orange (Man I love MRA you can shoot as fast as you can keep the rounds on the paper) with the right ammo in my Glenfeild I can't shoot fast enugh evedently.

Good thing it's a "Hunting Style" weapon...otherwise it might have killed some babies or maybe burned down an orphanage while I was out to sea.

Gotta worry about those "Military Style Weapons"

Just like the kids with thier "Racecar Style" Honda Civics with the coffee-can mufflers and the loud Sterios!!!

I love how they like to rate a gun JUST on how it looks!

An M1 or a Dragunov would make a great hunting rifle....but since they're military weapons it makes the GFW think this gun can shoot down a jumbo jet.....

Ok good Boost to the ol Blood Pressure there!

Gah this subject pisses me off!

PS: I became a Scientist because I like to defeat ignorance!

I prefer the M14 over the M1 for Deer Hunting, it weighs less.

And, yes, I've used the M14 and the Dragunov (and the AK, SKS, FAL and AR for hunting). I haven't used the M1 YET, but then, I haven't had it all that long.

Besides it being DAMN heavy, I'm sure it's as good as any other auto-loading deer rifle.

Oh wait, but it's "Military style" so it probably eats babies and butterflies....and voted for G E O R G E B U S H!!!!

Oh NOS!!! [roll]

Not as good, BETTER than any civilian semi-auto hunting rifle, like most military semi-autos.

I haven't seen a Remington 742/740/7400/Model Four or any of their pumps as well, that would shoot a decent group at 100 yards.

My AK shoots as well or better than the Remingtons. The FAL, M14, M1 and RomAK 3 shoot decent groups.
