New Folks Check In and Say Hi #4

Hi. New to the site. Still waiting for my LTC in the mail. Should be soon then I'm off to purchase my first firearm. Been researching for months. Wondering if anyone knows if Springfield XDS will ever become a mass compliant handgun. I've heard that Springfield doesn't want or care to, but didn't know if anyone here had any additional info.
Thanks

If someone could let the "good ole boy" know. How is the MA compliant thing? I understand there is a mag capacity limit, but am not aware of other things in MA.

Welcome to the board.

Hi all, I'm new here just joined the site. I am friends with tysdad and maybe a few others on here. He is helping me to build an AR. This looks to me like a very informative site you all have here. Maybe I will post a thread in the build forum.
I guess I would tell a joke or something but too beat from clearing snow. Anyway, see you guys around

Welcome to all you new guys. It's nice to see that our ranks are growing. My advice is to participate, learn, and get politically active. Prosit

Hi my name is Carl I've been lurking for a while . I live in Plymouth . I'm patiently waiting for my LTC in the mail . It's only day 25 since I dropped off my application . The woman who runs it in Plymouth told me no problem just a 3 month wait . I've had an fid since I was 18 I'm 50 now . I have a few 22's and a nice 12ga Churchill skeet gun . I'm looking forward to getting a pistol or ten . Where to start ?
my dad passed a few years ago and he had a few . One of my relatives is holding them for me .
A charter arms 38, and a iai 380 . Would like to keep those as they were my dads but want something
else for carry . The 38 was a fun gun years ago . The 380 was a disappointing jamomatic. From what I remember . For now just lurking and looking at what's for sale . At least I can save some cash for when it does come . I'll probably go to four seasons the day it comes and get at least one maybe two
have my eye on a 92fs and I like the ruger sr9c was thinking the latter would make a nice edc

Welcome to the board.

Quick and dirty run down:

There are three criteria that handguns must comply with for MA compliance:

1. The MA AWB. Handguns can't have more than 1 of a set of features (magwell outside of pistol grip, threaded barrel, barrel shroud that allows holding the barrel, weight of greater than 50 ounces, semi version of auto firearm)

2. The EOPS list. Handguns must be submitted by the manufacturer for safety testing. If the handgun passes the test, it gets added to the list. Off list handguns can only be sold if they were here before 98. The penalties for selling off EOPS list are steep, because dealers can be charged criminally.

3. AG approval. The AG has a set of "consumer safety" requirements. They do not provide guidance on how to meet these requirements. Manufacturers are required to self certify that their handguns meet the AG requirements. If they are wrong, they will only find out when the AG starts sending cease and desist letters. Penalties for dealers are steep fines.

So, the upshot is - for owners, only Number 1 matters. Numbers 2 and 3 apply to dealers, and result in increased prices for guns that don't comply.

Something tells me the state charges manufacturers for testing the gun. Seems to me this is cloaked in consumer safety, but in reality just limits what people can have.

The manufacturer pays a third party to do the testing, plus testing requires 5 or 6 guns which are destroyed. Yes, the purpose isn't safety

Hello everyone, new member, just wanted to say hi.

I am a moderately experienced gun owner living on the beautiful Cape Cod, with the FID card "under my belt" for 5 years, and now have my LTC class A for almost another 4 years.

I have been lurking in the shadows here and finally decided to register. So nice to meet you all! :)

Couple of questions I have are regarding:

1. The right to manufacture arms in Massachusetts. I've read here that, for example, if I were to finish an 80% AR lower and make a rifle out of it - I'd need to still inform the state using FA-10 form. Understood. Can I legally manufacture a zip gun (pipe shotgun) of a proper length (28", I believe?) and inform the state via this form, or such pipe guns are not allowed under Mass laws? In other words - any information on legally manufacturing firearms for personal use, Mass edition, would be greatly appreciated!! Hard to find all the relevant info online for Mass..

2. I got so interested in the firearms living in the USA (after growing in Russia with an extremely limited exposure to hunting shotguns in my childhood), that I want to get a C&R collector FFL license. I've read relevant threads and I think I know what needs to be done, but if anyone tried to get one recently in Massachusetts - I would really appreciate any input and thoughts on specifics (in my experience Mass always have something extra! :) )

Thank you all in advance, and happy to be a member now!

Maverick00,

Welcome!

Your questions are more appropriate posted in other sub-forums, but here's a quick shot.

1. "Disguised guns" in MA are illegal even if mfd by a company that way, so I suspect your pipe shotgun likely wouldn't fly here. I suggest that you connect up with "Boris" on NES, another Russian who loves to make guns out of shovels (not kidding)! He can probably assist you in understanding what you can and can not do.

2. MA has really no say in the C&R FFL. I posted a sticky called something like "everyone should have a C&R FFL". Local chief is given a copy of the application form, per BATFE regs/law when you apply but they don't do anything with it.

Hello from United Socialist States of Mass.

Welcome to NES! New folks should check in here and say HI!

Tell us about yourself...Where you live, your firearms experience, and how you found Northeastshooters! Thanks!

What can I say, grow up watching John Wayne, Daniel Boone and to many other western to count. Hunted, fished, hiked all over the great country of ours, and always loved everything about outdoors. As a late bloomer almost in mid 20s join the Army to serve my country. Volunteered and did my duty like a lot of my T.V. heroes of my time. It was a time when Vietnam was very fresh in the minds of people, Iran the gas crises, and I joining the service(army) not all that popular back then . Anyway glad to be here. Hello to one and all. God bless us all and keep us safe from harm. That's my rant. Sorry it long.

Hello Everyone my name is Luke and I live in Everett, MA. I have finally applied for my license and I'm currently waiting for it, I've been shooting since I was young, pretty excited to actually own my own firearms soon.

i was disappointed to find out a lot of the guns I've been wanting are not MA compliant, so that was a big shock for me when I learned about it recently .. Still pretty bummed, and re doing a lot of research again on what I will get for EDC.

i got mother question.. Why can't I reply to Clasifieds posts ?

Hi Everyone,

New member here from Tewksbury that just got my unrestricted LTC this morning. The licensing officer was out for 2 weeks apparently starting on the day the DCJIS sent them my license. Immediately after picking up my LTC I was at Four Seasons picking up an M&P Shield 9mm and a 92FS. I'm hoping to pick up an RPR in 6.5 Creedmoor this weekend if I can find one. I'm looking forward to exercising my 2nd amendment right as well as taking lunch breaks at the range.

Hello everyone...

My name is Dave. Just joined NES from Berkley. Re-engaging long dormant hobbies. Recently acquired my LTC, bought a new Sig 938 and retrieved others from storage. I am working to regain the proficiency I once had while in the USCG. I am also hoping to return to a skeet range in the near future. Longer term, I'd like to get back into some hunting.

I'm really interested in getting into hand-loading. I hand-loaded for my 12 Ga for a few years but never did for pistol or rifle. I've been perusing the reloading forum and will probably post for some guidance over there.

I've visited the FR R&G Club a couple of times and met really great folks. Thinking of also checking out Taunton as they're both about the same distance for me.

This site has already been a great resource for me. I look forward to getting to know you and tapping your knowledge. I have a lot to learn/relearn after 20+ years away.

Hi all. New guy from central ma here. I joined about a month ago and have been reading tons of posts and have found this to be a very helpful and informative site. I'm currently in that waiting for my ltc/deciding what to spend my cash on first phase. Hope to bug you all with my questions/comments sooner than later.

Hello folks-
New member here. Moving to Harvard, MA in a few months and found this site whilst looking for info on firearm ownership, shooting ranges, LTC, etc. We're coming from Maryland, so not too different. In some ways, Massachusetts appears to be better (e.g. you can actually get a carry permit!). I'll be looking to join the HSC and have our child shoot with the junior rifle team there. As for shooting background, grew up on a farm and served in the military. Have always been around guns and shooting and intend to maintain that. I do some IDPA shoots and sporting clays, and enjoy bird hunting with our dogs and bow hunting for deer.

Welcome. I would start your LTC process as soon as you get everything switched over. Although you can get an LTC in Mass, it takes TIME.

Hi everybody! My name's Mike and I'm from East Providence. I'm a big fan of revolvers. I've perused the site in the past but just decided to join. I'm glad to see how active the site is.

Hello!
New girl here! Moved to Central Mass from Las Vegas, NV in late 2014. Recently applied for my LTC at the end of Feb and patiently waiting for it. (I know it takes time). Went shooting for the first time during my pistol safety course and got absolutely addicted. Super excited to join a very passionate community. I have a lot to learn, and hopefully some of you long timers will be patient and willing to help!

Thought I really liked the ISSC M22, but I think that was because it was easier for a newb like me. Went back out with my instructor this past weekend and he had me shooting an STI eagle long slide .45 ACP shooting steel plates - and I freakin loved it. Really got the hang of it towards the end, starting to get more accurate and a little faster....can't wait to go out again.

Welcome! Always great to see women getting interested in firearms--it's our biggest potential growth area. We have some fine lady shooters on the forum that I'm sure will be happy to share the woman's perspective.

Hello Forum,

I'm one of those people climbing back in the saddle after a bunch of years away while family, business, and kids ruled the roost. Shot competition extensively and had an LTC through the early 90's. Yea, i'm one of the dopes that in the busyness of things back then let it lapse. So starting from scratch, taking a 2 day course next week to get the cert. required and will then hope for the best on the LTC being unrestricted. The wife is also going to be getting back in the swing of things too. Ahh the advantages of a kid free house and a bit more time on our hands to hit the range and get and stay sharp and safe. And of course shop for some new hardware!!

I'm overdue for a hello. I have been a registered member for several years and a LTC holder for a couple now, but only after purchasing my first handgun have I become more active. Learning lots, thank you for the great forum.

Hi All, I looked at a few forums and find this one to be the best. I was an active shooter in the 60's and 70's but things got in the way like raising and educating kids and travelling with work so I sold my guns and let my permit expire.[crying] Now that I'm retired I want to get back into it. I have taken the safety classes and applied for my LTC so now it's just waiting. My next dilemma is that some of the guns I have my eye on are in short supply or not on the MA approved list (what a joke!) Too late in life to move out of state so it's just wait and deal with it. I will be seeking a lot of help from the good people here.

Thanks, Joeb41
