Need knife recommendation

I have been looking at Puma knives recently. My dad shipped one back to have the grips replaced, and since they didn't make the part any more, they sent him a brand new model. Not bad for a knife that was 30 years old. They seem to have really high quality steel to, which seems to be the biggest problem with knives now.

A bit pricy though.

Just a heads up . For less than that $450 you can definitely get a custom made knife .

Hard to beat for the money. The Gerber comes in a couple variants. (Fixed,folding,gut-hook) They can be purchased locally (Dicks,Bass Pro, Sports Auth.,Walmart)

The Gerber Profile is what I have used before and was going to recommend. Its cheap and works just fine. You can remove the scales/grips too if you want to clean it thoroughly.

I have a Buck Vanguard on my pack now, which sadly I have not had a chance to use yet.... It looks like its basically the Buck Zipper without the hook.
The Buck is about 3 times as much as the Gerber, but it does look and feel a lot nicer, and I imagine has better steel too. And its made in the USA.
If you wanted to get real fancy you could get one of the Buck models with a wood handle and leather sheath (as opposed to rubber and nylon).

I know Blue Northern in Ayer has some selection of knives, I don't recall what they have but I have no doubt they have some geared towards hunting.

Didn't. Still trying to weasel some info from him as to preferences. His birthday is in 2 weeks so it will likely become a birthday gift.

It is hard to pick out a knife for someone else. Good luck and happy birthday to the hubby.

And they have a no nonsense lifetime warranty. I have had a buck folder since 1980 and it has been around the world with me (literally) and a while back I broke off the tip of the blade. I sent it back asking for the blade to be replaced. I told them it was my fault and I wanted to know what it would cost as the knife has a lot of sentimental value to me. I received it back in about two weeks with a brand new blade in it at no charge.

I always have that knife on my belt when I am in the woods but for cleaning deer the Ghromann GR1 (D.H. Russell Canadian Belt Knife) is my go to knife.
