Gun owners are expressing outrage toward a television station in Raleigh, N.C. that linked to a database that allows any reader to access the number of concealed carry permit holders in the station's viewing area.

WRAL-TV, one of the oldest television stations in North Carolina, ran a story on guns that proved to be controversial in the aftermath of the Colorado movie shooting. The station provided a link to a special database that makes public the number of citizens on a particular street who have received a license to carry concealed firearms. All a reader has to do is enter a street name in a town in the area, along with a zip code. The database will then pull up the number of concealed carry permit holders on that street.

Just another reason databases are bad.

Actually, that could work. If a B&E bad guy looked at the data base and your street showed like 30+ guns on it but not the houses, he would pick another street with say, no guns or only two!

See! Another reason to have a safe full of guns!

it's just the number of LTCs issued to residents of that street. The problem is, if you're the only one with an LTC in your wealthy neighborhood, you're more of a target. Why does the state even have the database, let along granting journalists, who are abusive of data as politicians, unfettered access?

You people are making the mistake of correlating possession of a NC LTC with possession of firearms in NC.

The possession of an LTC is in no way necessary to possess firearms in North Carolina.

Like in FL, the solution is to publish on the Internet the home addresses, names of spouses/children, ages, phone numbers, etc. of those in charge of the TV station.

Somehow the folks in charge of the newspaper in FL that this was done to (after they published names/age/addresses of all licensed gun owners in a county) said it was "unfair" that they were targeted! [laugh]

Lawmakers were convinced to make the info confidential for all shortly afterwards.

Look at the bright side. It will enable prospective buyers to choose a gun friendly street.

LenS has a great idea. I hope they also publish the ownership percentage on those streets too. That way a thug can calculate his chances of being shot when he robs them.

Just think about the number of firearms that so many outstanding folks do own in NC, that is a good thing indeed.

Tweet the list to the Jugalos.

By process of elimination, they'll know who to visit.

Then, the paper cna do another story, on the rash of home invasions.

Then, the people that were not on the list, will get onto the list, pronto.

Then the paper can do a story about the surge in gun ownership

It will work out well, for everyone.

This
The county my wife's family is from reports a population of 3.1% holding a LTC but I am willing to bet everyone on that mountain has at least a .22, something in a .30 and a shotgun. I did the online search and not 1 LTC is found on her streeet.
