So, I am from NH, and my wife and I decide to go to Mohegan Sun this past Sunday/Monday. Knowing that I am going to be going through the People's Republic of MA, and holding a NH Pistol Permit only, I go naked. Because I am going to the casino, I only bring the essentials in my wallet,(ID, Cash,Debit & Credit Card), as I see no reason to take any chances if I lose it.
After a very nice night of drinking, gambling, eating, etc., we head home the next morning. I figured that we'd stop at Cabela's as I wanted some Turkey Ammo that has been in short supply at the local shops, and is one of the few things I don't reload. I grab a couple boxes and a few other things and proceed to the checkout. A cashier that looks like the textbook reason I carry for self protection in the first place asks me for ID. I had bought ammo at this store as long as it had been open, but never was ID'd. Then Mr. Gang & Neck Tats at the register points to the sign on the counter, and tells me that the ID has to be one of the forms on the placard there, none of which I have on me. (As a result of the new laws in CT).
Of course, shame on me for not thinking ahead of time that I was travelling in NannyLand, and would need my "papers". The ludicrous nature of the whole law hit home as I drove back to New Hampshire; the only people who will be affected by it are the ones who OBEY the law. The criminals, scum, illegals, and mental f**ks don't obey the laws, and will not be bothered for one second by this.
I'm not proposing boycotts, or anything else. Just lamenting that, once again, the law abiding gun owner gets f**ked, and that the news was hard to take from "Felons R' Us".

Yep, I was there last Friday, you can buy reloading supplies but no ammo per CT laws. I did see an interesting pre '98 1873 Winchester and when I asked, the salesperson said that they would fill out 'paperwork' on the gun anyway.

The NH Pistol Permit would be useless as well; I would have to obtain some bullshit CT permit to buy ammunition. They can stick it in their ass as far as I am concerned.

I'm pretty sure a NH pistol permit isn't valid for ammo in ct.

This. Unless the OP has a CT non-res permit or a CT ammo permit that they didn't tell us about, none of their ID left at home would have helped. Cuz Newtown. Clearly prohibiting law abiding citizens from buying ammo would have stopped that guy from murdering his own mother to steal her guns and ammo, and then murder children and teachers.

This will cause the end of the East Hartford store mark my words! If it bullets or firearms and you are out of state forget it unless you get the CT permit! This is why I am surprised Cabelas is opening a new store in MA. I think putting one on the VT/NH line would be smart! One more reason to drive to the Hamberg PA store!

Getting a CT pistol permit is easy as cake. Since Sandy Hook the wait time is a good deal longer but as long as you have a home state permit, you'll get a CT permit. The only real disadvantage is the cost, about $200? Maybe a less. Yes, CT sucks. But if you get a permit you can carry in CT and you can buy ammo in CT.

I think you can also get an ammo certificate, which is a lot cheaper and easier?

I broke down and got the ammo cert yesterday. $35 for 5 years. It's nothing more than a fundraiser but on the bright side I was in and out of the pubic safety building in under 30 mins. It's useless. It's a pain in the bean bag but being from the Springfield area I can't justify going to nh or vt for boollits.

200.00! How many years is it good for?

I'm really surprises that with all the Asshattery in CT and MA, that one never went up in RI, I could think of 3 prime locations off the top of my head.

this ammo cert annoys the hell out of me, I used to visit family and friends in CT and would stop there to stock up on the way back, not any more. I won't be getting a certificate or anything like that as I don't plan on going to CT any time soon.

CT sucks!

5 years. In state (shithole) it was $100 and a four month wait. Not that easy IMO- especially compared to New Hampshire.

What is more infuriating than having to live with the law is the arrogance on the part of lawmakers who rammed this shit through. Including the governors smug "your side lost" comments. All I can do is direct my spending to free states and bide my time until I can escape.

Not it to worry, the state is heading the way of Detroit with of the highest debts per capita in the nation. If I remember correctly, it's around 22K per person. Everything is Great!

Outside MA, they won't be able to sell handguns to MA residents. There are far more people in MA than NH/VT/ME combined, and almost twice as many as in CT. Even given MA laws I'd bet they'd gladly give up the rest of the New England market to have full access to the MA market. Especially considering they've already got CT covered (though I agree the new CT laws are bad news for that location) and have the Maine location as well.

I had looked this up before I posted the original comment. It isn't the money, it's the principal, especially since I am from a free state. 35 dollars or 35 cents...I say F**K THAT.

I wonder if the powers that be at Cabela's know yet that MA law only allows them to sell ammo to Massachusetts residence licensed customers? I don't think a ME, CT, NY, RI, VT, or NH resident could even buy a box of .22LR ammo with a MA non-resident LTC. Correct?

Out-of-state people can buy long guns. But they won't be able to buy ammo to go with them.

Maybe Cabela's, BassPro, and other chains could help push through some type of reciprocity bill.

WRONG!

NRs can NOT buy guns, ammo, components or large-cap mags legally in MA even if they possess a MA NR LTC! You can thank the students from Simons Rock for that law.

CT is now more or less another "null state" in the northeast, only thing that they haven't completely ****ed up is that you can still easily get a CCW to carry a neutered handgun down there.... so in that regard I guess it's still better than NY and NJ is.

You carry guns because of people with neck tattoos? Most of those people are harmless tattoo enthusiasts.

That being said, that Cabela's is useless now with the new laws. Need a special license just to buy ammo, it's idiotic.

It's not so bad if you have a CT CCW license... but if you don't, forget about it. It's only worth it if you like live down there or cross the border all the time.
