Is FFL transfer needed?

I apologize to the elders for such a newbie question but I'm not sure about this. If a Mass resident buys a "Mass compliant" rifle at a gun store in New Hampshire, must the firearm be then shipped to a FFL in Mass or can the buyer take it home and be considered legal?

You can buy it direct from the NH FFL if it's a complete rifle. At least according to MGL, you must file an FA-10 registration on it, though, within 7 days of it entering MA when you bring it back.

what about FTF sale of a rifle? does it still need to go through a NH FFL?

As a Mass resident you can not do a FTF sales with an NH resident. The sale must go through an FFL.
