Oh boy a bunch more of poorly vetted and most likely even more poorly trained a-holes running around with badges and guns and a sense of invulnerability.
Can't see where this could go wrong.

You guys are paranoid. LOL
A client of mine got the alarm bell rung by a d-bag IRS agent. IRS Police didn't show up. The FBI did. In a panel van. Like AR's and body armor and face masks and the works. They had it cleared up in about 15 min and the "agent" was pretty much fired the same day for being a complete tool to the client in the first place.
As much as I hate the IRS - and I hate them for 30,000 more reasons than you do - I'm not real worried about them getting weaponized. Would you want to go into someone's office to ask for records and NOT be armed???? Just some backwater bar or whatever?? Same reason we don't want civilian workers wandering in and seeing if inner-city tools "need help" unarmed, SOME IRS agents NEED to be armed - in case someone starts blastin.
(TBH - the biggest problem in the IRS is the fact that they are unionized federal workers. This means they can do 1/3 hte work and complain 3x as much. I'm not sure all of them are back in the office from Covid. It's 3 years later. Get your sorry asses in teh office, work a full shift and ANSWER THE GD PHONE!)
On the front for 97% of the masses the IRS is cuddly compared to mdor etc.... sure. But if you're one of the 3%..... watch out. You are hopelessly naive if you don't think they can become weaponized. You guys are paranoid. LOL

They already have been.On the front for 97% of the masses the IRS is cuddly compared to mdor etc.... sure. But if you're one of the 3%..... watch out. You are hopelessly naive if you don't think they can become weaponized.
Yes they've been weaponized against certain parties but I think the scope is going to increase to an uncomfortable level that will start penetrating commoners..... of course the only thing protecting the commoners is the fact that the government is incompetent at pretty much everything especially when it comes to that stuff.... it's kind of funny they talk s*** about busting money launderers and all those other crap but you start to see all these gas stations, inside the 95/93 loops all over the place that aren't obviously used for legitimate business.... based upon the prices you see on the sign they're still all standing there.... they 10 steps ahead of the "state" because of slothThey already have been.
Obama weaponized them during his presidency. We are watching the DOJ being weaponized before our eyes currently. They don’t need guns to be government thugs.
Possibly. I like Tim Scott. Trumpers are going to drag us down and give POTUS to the left so they can ruin the country even more.Vivek Ramaswamy is the candidate for you! Get on-board
For me the fact airplane safety makes it on this list, makes me laughNot that I wish death upon someone I don't even know, but......
The fed gov't is necessary, and desirable, but should be smaller. Way smaller. They have a few jobs to do, like defend the country, monitor interstate commerce and such, airplane safety, etc, but not saddle citizens and businesses with oppressive rules, regulations, and bureaucracies. Dump the dept of ejakashun immediately, and then analyze the true value of others, before dumping a few more.
Depends on who is grieving.Federal government unions are weak and useless. They can't strike, they can't bargain for pay, they can't bargain for benefits. About the only thing they can do is help save someones job when management effs up.
And management in the fed is 10x worse than the private sector....
As someone who was in a government union as both a supervisor and member of the bargaining unit for 18 years, please enlighten me where I am wrong...Depends on who is grieving.
Maybe.
Wrong.
Wrong.
Maybe.
Maybe.
There are 78 or 79 federal employee unions so your experience in one does not translate to the others. Some are covered with a CBA which detail pay, benefits, conditions, etc. Some are loose affiliations that resemble more like a social club.As someone who was in a government union as both a supervisor and member of the bargaining unit for 18 years, please enlighten me where I am wrong...
Pay rates are set by OPM based on the job series and classification that OPM determines. If OPM determines that the pay rate for a series tops out at is a GS11, the union can't negotiate a higher rate. Same thing with health insurance, retirement, 401k, vacations. Everyone pays the same for health insurance across the G (with 1 exception). Everyones 401k is the same. Everyones retirement is the same (either regular or LEO). Everyone gets the same number of weeks vacation across the G based on longevity. Benefits across the G are basically the same for everyone. There are 78 or 79 federal employee unions so your experience in one does not translate to the others. Presidents ordered the IRS to investigate their enemies long before Obama was president. When Obama was just starting in middle school, President Nixon sent the IRS to investigate Democratic opponents. But Nixon wasn’t the nearly first; FDR ordered the IRS to investigate Huey Long. They already have been.

That's like your opinion...You guys are paranoid. LOL

Correct.Presidents ordered the IRS to investigate their enemies long before Obama was president. When Obama was just starting in middle school, President Nixon sent the IRS to investigate Democratic opponents. But Nixon wasn’t the nearly first; FDR ordered the IRS to investigate Huey Long.
The vast majority of those 80k will not be armed. But keep believing the clickbait designed to make you hyperventilate.Correct.
Point being the IRS has already been weaponized so why should we not care about 80K more government thugs on the payroll.
“There are about 3,000 employees in CI, 2,100 of which are special agents and the remaining professional staff,” Cole said. “Only special agents carry firearms.” For context, there were 81,600 total IRS employees in fiscal year 2021
Your smart enough to realize they don't need to be armed to harm anyone. The IRS has the power to garnish wages, they are probably wield the most power over the average Joe than any other federal agency. And I was replying to someone who was referring to why they need be armed. The vast majority of those 80k will not be armed. But keep believing the clickbait designed to make you hyperventilate.
Yes, they do. Do you think they garnish the wages of someone without a very good reason?Your smart enough to realize they don't need to be armed to harm anyone. The IRS has the power to garnish wages,
Yes, the IRS can take your paycheck. It’s called a wage levy/garnishment.
But – if the IRS is going to do this, it won’t be a surprise. The IRS can only take your paycheck if you have an overdue tax balance and the IRS has sent you a series of notices asking you to pay.
If you don’t respond to those notices, the IRS can eventually file federal tax liens and issue levies.
Just consent to a search if your innocent what is their to worry about? Why do you care if someone is watching what you do online as long as you don't do anything illegal and your a good person what is there to worry about? And yet... just 1 post back you agreed that Presidents have weaponized utilizing the IRS against their enemies. So your ok with the IRS hiring 80k new agents? Do I have that right?Yes, they do. Do you think they garnish the wages of someone without a very good reason?
So pay your taxes and don't ignore their mail.
Have presidents misused the IRS? Yes. Does that happen a lot? No. Is it wrong? Absolutely.Just consent to a search if your innocent what is their to worry about? I'd suggest you go back and read the entire conversation. Someone suggested they needed to be armed otherwise they would be murdered by backwoods gun owners when asked for paperwork. In the meantime you can ease up on the "fear mongers", "hyperventilating" and "clickbait" language. The picture your trying to paint of me isn't coming out how you want it too. Your being disingenuous. I'm not a fan of the government having more agents on the payroll for a variety of reasons. You don't seem to have a problem with it.Have presidents misused the IRS? Yes. Does that happen a lot? No. Is it wrong? Absolutely.
Is it important that the federal goverment collect the taxes that are owed? Yes, indeed. Otherwise you wind up with Greece, where no one pays their taxes.
The IRS will need to hire 50,000 agents over the next six years just to keep the same headcount, as some quit and others retire. The 87,000 figure is a projection over 10 years. But keep believing the fear mongers.
This is very true the difference is now the media makes more noise about it but it doesn't result in anything . The thing is though hiring more IRS agents is quite obviously a form of weaponization. There's no real getting around that I mean part of the thing is is you're not acknowledging the fact that the IRS didn't even want these people..... that's a thread that was going on for years now. Anything that enlarges the size of the government is bad they don't have a problem collecting Revenue they government has a serious problem with spending the revenue....Presidents ordered the IRS to investigate their enemies long before Obama was president. When Obama was just starting in middle school, President Nixon sent the IRS to investigate Democratic opponents. But Nixon wasn’t the nearly first; FDR ordered the IRS to investigate Huey Long.
Zero IRS employees need to have LE authority or be armed to perform their jobs. The vast majority of those 80k will not be armed. But keep believing the clickbait designed to make you hyperventilate.
Again, you are believing the fear porn.I'd suggest you go back and read the entire conversation. The government does few things well. One of them is separate citizens from their money. Taking in more taxes isn't the problem a la Greece.
The 87,000 figure comes from a 2021 Treasury report that estimated the IRS could hire 86,852 full-time employees over the course of a decade with a nearly $80 billion investment – not solely enforcement agents.
And all those new employees can’t be hired overnight. The money will flow to the IRS over a 10-year period.
“The reality is the $80 billion boost would be spread throughout the agency, with money flowing to enforcement, taxpayer services, operations, and modernization,” wrote Janet Holtzblatt, a senior fellow at the Urban-Brookings Tax Policy Center.
The Inflation Reduction Act dictates that about $45.6 billion will go toward strengthening enforcement activities – including collecting taxes owed, providing legal support, conducting criminal investigations and providing digital asset monitoring. But the IRS has not specified how many auditors will be hired.
More than $25 billion is allocated to support IRS operations, including expenses like rent payments, printing, postage and telecommunications.
Nearly $4.8 billion can be used for modernizing the agency’s customer service technology, like developing a callback service.
Roughly $3 billion is allocated for taxpayer assistance, filing and account services.
Many new hires will be replacements
Many of the new hires will be replacing staff that the IRS has already lost or is expected to lose through attrition in coming years.
Last year, then-IRS Commissioner Charles Rettig told lawmakers that staffing has shrunk to 1970s levels and that the IRS would need to hire 52,000 people over the next six yearsjust to maintain current staffing levels to replace those who retire or otherwise leave.
4,000 customer service reps were hired last year
The IRS is already using the new funds to ramp up hiring for work outside of its audit operations.
In October, the IRS announced it had hired 4,000 customer service representatives to answer phones and provide other taxpayer assistance. At the time, the agency said it intended to hire another 1,000 staffers by the end of 2022.
Because that’s not true. There has been a 17% reduction in IRS headcount since 2010.There's no real getting around that I mean part of the thing is is you're not acknowledging the fact that the IRS didn't even want these people..... that's a thread that was going on for years now.
