I Had to do it!!!....Best Pizza

Growing up in the New Haven area, I'm a Pizza snob. Sally's, Pepe's, and Modern are the best. Zuppardi's in West Haven is also awesome.

Basically any strip mall pizza joint within 20 miles of New Haven is going to be better than anything in Boston.

So having moved to the Boston area, I was thrilled when Pepe's opened stores in Watertown and Burlington. Both are very good.
Sally's just opened in Woburn. In New Haven Sally's is my preference for everything except for clam. The Woburn store isn't quite up to speed yet.

If you want a white clam pie, Its all about Pepe's. Get a small at Watertown and it's as good as New Haven. The large pies seem to have thicker crust than New Haven.

You sound just like a guy I work with.

I find this hard to believe. Evidently you haven't had Santarpios. Back in the 60's 70's Bianchi's on Revere Beach was the best thin crust and Anna's also on the beach was excellent. BTW, if it isn't Cheese or Pepperoni it isn't pizza. LOL. Pineapple and ham does not belong on pizza. Neither does buffalo chicken. Although if you ever been to the Big Y supermarket try their Mac & cheese "pizza" . It's pretty awesome.

Red Wing was an awesome pizza. Passed it today and it was closed. Looked it up and they closed their doors in Oct 2023

There is a rumor that a former Patriot player bought it which means it will bust in about a year after it opens again!
Second rumor: The Wing was bought by someone who is going to turn it into a restaurant / pastry shop!
No pizza will = blasphemy!

The one is Peabody is crap, is the one downtown that much better? Nothing made by Big Y is any good in my experience.

I know it’s not in the theme of the thread but it’s hard to call anyplace “best pizza.” I’ve had amazing pizza in Milan, Manhattan, New Haven, even in south France. They’re all a little different, quite a bit different comparing Milan to NY/CT.

My favorite place in Mass is Panini Pizza in Danvers. I also like Flatbread but it’s again very different almost not pizza.

Now this is going back 50 years!, but does anyone else remember Casa Mañana, in Chicopee, I believe? I used to love their pizza, and was devastated when it shut down. I was in a band back then, and that was always a favorite spot of ours to go to after a gig. Ah, good times...good times.

People gotta try and fix it til it’s broke. This would be a hard pass, should be illegal to use the name and not sling bar pies.

Max & Leo's in Newton is one of the best I've ever had. I make excuses to get off the Pike at that abortion of an exit ever time I go by there just for their pie. The Sudbury/Boston locations are good but Newton is more consistent. Never been to the Chelmsford one.

I saw something online about Joey Peeps Peetza. It was some Italian guy that went there. They spent a LOT of time on dough prep. But the sauce was just crushed tomato and the ONLY cheese was some parm. It might be good, but that ain't pizza. Hell, Hawaiian pizza may be more pizza than that. LOL. It's glorified RI bakery pizza on a crispier crust. ;)

I'm gonna have to test it out some day. Just to see. But it would require me to go into CT. I avoid that as much as possible. It seems they have a Wahuh-wick location. Maybe. . . . .

Pizza without mozzarella IS pizza. In fact it's olde schoole.

This is a CT style "plain" pie. Red sauce, grated Romano and parm mix, anchovies

This is the absolute opposite of my taste; I'm more of a white pizza (with bacon) kinda guy:

Bianchi's back in the day was great, still bubbling, thin crust and great taste.

Frank Pepe’s is in Burlington. They do sell toppings even. I didn’t think it was quite as good as the one in CT but close enough.

Road trip….want to try some New Haven pizza
Any of the several Pepe's restaurants gets pretty darn close. I say this as a dyed in the wool New Haven pizza snob.

Smalls and Mediums get closest as the crust gets a bit thick with a large.

Sausage is great.

Pepe's is know for their white clam pies , which they started making in the 1940s.

About the pizza porn. Yes I take photos when I get a really nice pie.

Wasn't the first peetz a Margherita???? Red sauce, mozzarella cheese, basil leaves????

Again, I'm gonna have to try it, but if 99% of Americans have mozzarella cheese on their pizza, it's gonna be hard to say "this is the best in the country" when no one else is doing it. Just sayin. If it was that good, Dominos and Peetzer-Hutt would be getting in on the thing.
