The one when you get busted with drugs insurance has to pay for rehab ie every other person pays for your rehab when you get busted .
Ugh I was hearing the governor's speech on that bill on NPR this afternoon. He sounds like a eunuch. Apparently that bill includes mandates for insurance companies to pay for up to 14 day inpatient stays for addicts. Not cheap.

Isn't socialism awesome . Sadly there is a drug / plant you can take that basically cures you of the chemical addiction of herion .
Granted you still got the mental side of missing the high, which is the easy part to over come . But you skip over the withdrawals and the sickness of getting off of it. High times has done a few write ups about it. william s Burroughs used it to get clean.
The FDA will not even run test on it.

I've tried to read his stuff... For the first 50 pages I'm thinking "Yeah, it's racy but I think I'm getting it this time!" and then I'm like "Ummmm, I think I'm getting lost" and then I'm all "Huh? WTF? I need a drink and a shower."

Several months ago, I was denied a concealed carry permit, despite fulfilling all of the obligations of the statute, with a no-details form letter. I had my 2nd court date yesterday regarding my appeal to my denial for a permit. My first court date, of which I was informed by mail somewhat unexpectedly, was originally going to be a straightforward agreement to the release of the documents regarding whatever objections were made to the Concealed Carry Licensing Review Board regarding my application. Upon going before the judge . . .
.............
Under these new rules, the review board is not just allowed to, but required to inform the applicant of the exact objections made to the application, by what jurisdiction and then allow for a response by the applicant. The response is required to be submitted within 10 days of the mailing of this information.

Naturally, I was annoyed that I had paid over $300 to appeal a decision and was being told they knew they were wrong and were asking for the case to be remanded. A status hearing was then scheduled for another date (yesterday).

The shows the person was deemed unsuitable based on a preponderance of evidence... the police blatantly ignored the requirement to inform the applicant of the exact reasons for denial....

Sound like behavior we should be expecting?

In all seriousness -- why has Governor Patrick not yet signed H.4376? What's in-play here that we're not aware of?

Politics. It isn't his pet OGAM bill, the ultra left doesn't like it, it's less harmful to him politically if he ignores it for 10 days and lets it pass on its own. He has nothing to gain by signing it.

This. There's nothing for him to gain by having pomp and circumstance over signing a bill that was produced by a legislature that completely spurned him on gun control his entire tenure in office. [laugh]

Any idea if Deville favors Marcia or Grossman?

Good question. I'd almost imagine though, that if either of them are smart, "getting endorsed by Deval" isn't exactly a buff for points in this race.

I dunno, I'm thinking he signs it at the last minute. There's got to be some positive press for "toughening gun laws in the Commonwealth under my watch" sorta BS he can play. Heck, he could even say that it didn't go as far as he wanted, but "it's a step in the right direction" and all that crap.

I bet he's just making sure the furniture is where he wants it in his new $11M office....or maybe the new facial recognition software has him locked out of his own office.

Dollars to donuts he signs it, either before the weekend, or he may get more play in the press on Monday. He has til Tuesday for the 10 days, right?

That exactly, imho. Look at what's in it--there's some stuff that makes good sound bites ("protect the children!") and then a bunch of technical stuff that most people don't even understand or care about. It's not like anybody, pro or anti, who doesn't already know this stuff and likely have a strong opinion is going to sit through (for instance) the explanation of what a C&R FFL is and what The List is and why that's in there. I'm just expecting a bunch of "protect the children while respecting rights! can't have another columbine!" and then move on.

Did they ever get the wording and dates fixed correctly in this bill, in case it becomes law?

What does an $11M office look like? I can't even fathom.

If done right, it would look a bit like Tony Stark's office in Iron Man. But, this is the government so..... It'll just be more mahogany. The rest is pocketed by corrupt friends.

I just spoke with my State Rep about an hour ago. He believes that the Devil intends to sign it and he confirmed that if it isn't signed in 10 days it does indeed become law. I thanked him for voting for the final version.

To which wording and which dates are you referring?

Exactly. Why is there any confusion? It's only had 18 different versions, 42 revisions, 91 errortoriums, and the one supposedly on Deval's new desk to be signed will probably be changed 3 times afterwards. Unless it got laid on his old desk and ended up in a dumpster.

I dunno there was humor there somewhere

Yeah. I don't even know any more. I just hope they don't pork us out of all the good parts of this by not enacting them for 5 years or something.

Sure, it feels better to have the pepper spray fixed, and LTC-B gone, but the rest of it just stinks, and is more regulation on what should be an unregulated right.

Umm, what? I thought the new law (bill, still) will let anyone >18 just buy it with no FID card required.

What did I miss?

you can buy it, but if you're a prohibited person and you use it in self defense, you can be arrested for possession. awesome place we live in, isn't it!
you're prohibited, for whatever reason, but feel the need to defend yourself...you can't buy a firearm, so you get a can of spray. Someone mugs you, you spray them, tell the popo, and they arrest YOU for defending yourself!!

Yup. The bill has all this extra language in it about who can't purchase or possess pepper spray. There's no requirement for the vendor to check (and indeed how would they?), though I suppose they could get in trouble if they knew the purchaser was prohibited.

Also still have to be licensed to sell ammunition in MA to sell pepper spray.

Stupid and asinine all around. No other state has this bullshit over what is basically a condiment.
