Does anybody on here get involved with the voting/election process on a local level, either as an election observer or volunteer poll worker? I assume you need to be registered to volunteer and get involved at the polls, but do you need to be registered to be an observer? Is it all handled at the state or town level in MA?

Usually the town level for poll worker, observer is probably at the "party" level, an observer is affiliated with a political party.

Contact your City Clerk, they normally handle elections.

Not sure about MA, but in NH you've got some poll workers organized by the town clerk, mostly those handling voter check in, and others handled by the town moderator. The assistant moderators monitor the ballot box and deal with any problems in the voting booths. Either way getting in touch with the town clerk or moderator will likely lead to either position if you are interested. Poll observers are organized by each political party and aren't really helping the election so much as helping their party either get out the vote or watch the ballot handling/counting.

I serve as an assistant moderator for Merrimack NH. If you've got more questions ask away.
