Any photos of the shooter yet?
Another guy replied to me, saying that the 6 mass shootings in the last 21 days proves armed self-defense doesn’t work. So, I ask what data he’s referring to, saying that different trackers have very different data (below) and that 95%+ of mass shootings happen in gun-free zones where guns carried for self-defense are prohibited. My best friend from school in Iowa during the early 70s moved to CA, became a teacher in Colorado Springs - still a great guy but very progressive in all ways. While we’ve not met in decades, I sometimes reply to his posts with information rather than debate. In this case, I simply referenced FBI Active Shooter reports and noted that 24 shot (5 dead so far) may not prove unarmed defense against an armed attacker is superior to a “good guy with a gun”. Letting a shooter run out of ammo before tackling him is certainly an option - just not a good one. I never get a reply/Like from him or any of the dozens of others on such posts, but he’s not unfriended me yet. Head-in-sand people…
Curiously, fewer active shooters suicide now than in past decades. Dunno if response (kill/capture) is getting better or if more don’t plan early suicide. Mass shootings remain too rare to make reliable predictions.
Rifle mentioned in CNN article but elsewhere defenders seized the shooter’s pistol and beat him with it. Maybe the shooter transitioned rifle to pistol?
”I looked up and saw the outline of a man holding a rifle at the entrance of the club – probably about 15 feet from me,” said Michael Anderson, who was bartending at Club Q in Colorado Springs, Colorado, late Saturday night.”

Mental illness.Video and audio on news last night. Fat slob, bubba-gamer vocabulary. Probably a incel with rage issues.
Might have been rejected at the bar and was after some revenge?
Whatever the motives, if idiots like this want to make the world a better place, they should start with killing themselves.

Won’t save the CSPD and prosecutor from addressing how the killer was out on the streets. I expect they’ll be slow-walking release of information like Uvalde. *Someone* is to blame but, early on, careers can be ruined by the media, who are looking to crucify anyone immediately.MSN

I had this argument with some coworkers a few years ago. Went down like this:Another guy replied to me, saying that the 6 mass shootings in the last 21 days proves armed self-defense doesn’t work. So, I ask what data he’s referring to, saying that different trackers have very different data (below) and that 95%+ of mass shootings happen in gun-free zones where guns carried for self-defense are prohibited.

I figure he’s hyperventilating and foaming mad by now, as he replies “what more do you need to prove ‘a good guy with a gun‘ doesn’t work - we need to ban guns.”
A lot of these bleeding-heart progressive liberals are atheist/agnostic and have no faith in God(s), but they seem to have a blind faith in gun control as a solution to evil in this world. Only they expect their heaven on earth, where everyone does what they think the right thing is to do.

A Toolkit for Avoiding Mass Shootings
RAND has developed an online educational toolkit to provide practical strategies and guidance on deterring, mitigating, and responding to mass attacks. Research highlights three top ways to mitigate and/or respond to mass attacks right now: through proactive prevention, relentless follow-up, and...www.rand.org
How many of these factors were missed or fumbled in this case? The major failing was strong clues were somehow evaluated and dismissed. Stuff falls through the cracks, but this was willful negligence. If anyone looked the other way given this troubled youth‘s recent past, it was a mistake born of progressive policies and under-resourced services. There were numerous efforts to defund CSPD 2020-2022, with staffing 10% down.
Proactive Prevention
Of the cases we examined, more than half were foiled in advance of a mass attack. Almost two-thirds of the clues leading to foiling mass attacks came from the public, with the most important warning signs being serious intentions and preparations to carry out attacks. Examples of intentions to kill include describing (often online) how they are inspired by past attacks or an extremist cause to kill, or describing how they feel they have no choice or are compelled to kill.
Relentless Follow-Up
Once warning signs have been reported, follow-up is critical across community networks. Communities must build prevention teams to tie together information and resources ahead of time, and not wait for an attack to happen.
Information simply cannot be left in the field and balls cannot be dropped.
Diligent Training, Preparation
People and communities need to be trained and educated on what they can do to respond to attacks. This includes, but goes well beyond, the “run, hide, fight” we—and our children—have become accustomed to. Advance planning and training are required of all agencies and partners who will jointly respond to mass attacks. This is not just for law enforcement—it is also for fire, EMS, emergency management, and for owners and security managers responsible for protecting public locations.
Supporting Mass Attack Defenses
In order to foster the prevention and mitigation efforts, there needs to be institutional support. Even though mass attacks are rare, communities can't wait to put these elements together. Federal resources are available. Individual agencies or municipalities can work together to increase their ability to fund and staff efforts, and can leverage existing threat assessment and emergency response–planning efforts

If our politicians put a fraction of the time they spend lining their own pockets and pushing partisan agendas on providing long-term treatment for mental illness, many innocent lives would be spared such horror.
