Colorado Springs LGBT Club Mass Shooting

Any photos of the shooter yet?

Video and audio on news last night. Fat slob, bubba-gamer vocabulary. Probably a incel with rage issues.

Might have been rejected at the bar and was after some revenge?

Whatever the motives, if idiots like this want to make the world a better place, they should start with killing themselves.

My best friend from school in Iowa during the early 70s moved to CA, became a teacher in Colorado Springs - still a great guy but very progressive in all ways. While we’ve not met in decades, I sometimes reply to his posts with information rather than debate. In this case, I simply referenced FBI Active Shooter reports and noted that 24 shot (5 dead so far) may not prove unarmed defense against an armed attacker is superior to a “good guy with a gun”. Letting a shooter run out of ammo before tackling him is certainly an option - just not a good one. I never get a reply/Like from him or any of the dozens of others on such posts, but he’s not unfriended me yet. Head-in-sand people…

Curiously, fewer active shooters suicide now than in past decades. Dunno if response (kill/capture) is getting better or if more don’t plan early suicide. Mass shootings remain too rare to make reliable predictions.

Rifle mentioned in CNN article but elsewhere defenders seized the shooter’s pistol and beat him with it. Maybe the shooter transitioned rifle to pistol?

”I looked up and saw the outline of a man holding a rifle at the entrance of the club – probably about 15 feet from me,” said Michael Anderson, who was bartending at Club Q in Colorado Springs, Colorado, late Saturday night.”

Another guy replied to me, saying that the 6 mass shootings in the last 21 days proves armed self-defense doesn’t work. So, I ask what data he’s referring to, saying that different trackers have very different data (below) and that 95%+ of mass shootings happen in gun-free zones where guns carried for self-defense are prohibited.

Mass Shootings in 2021 finds 26 mass shootings in the last 21 days

Mass Shootings in 2022 | Gun Violence Archive finds 30 in 21 days

US mass shootings, 1982–2022: Data from Mother Jones’ investigation finds only 2 in 21 days

Most Comprehensive Mass Shooter Database - The Violence Project finds 5 in all of 2022

I figure he’s hyperventilating and foaming mad by now, as he replies “what more do you need to prove ‘a good guy with a gun‘ doesn’t work - we need to ban guns.”

A lot of these bleeding-heart progressive liberals are atheist/agnostic and have no faith in God(s), but they seem to have a blind faith in gun control as a solution to evil in this world. Only they expect their heaven on earth, where everyone does what they think the right thing is to do.

Mental illness.

How many of these factors were missed or fumbled in this case? The major failing was strong clues were somehow evaluated and dismissed. Stuff falls through the cracks, but this was willful negligence. If anyone looked the other way given this troubled youth‘s recent past, it was a mistake born of progressive policies and under-resourced services. There were numerous efforts to defund CSPD 2020-2022, with staffing 10% down.

Proactive Prevention

Of the cases we examined, more than half were foiled in advance of a mass attack. Almost two-thirds of the clues leading to foiling mass attacks came from the public, with the most important warning signs being serious intentions and preparations to carry out attacks. Examples of intentions to kill include describing (often online) how they are inspired by past attacks or an extremist cause to kill, or describing how they feel they have no choice or are compelled to kill.

Relentless Follow-Up

Once warning signs have been reported, follow-up is critical across community networks. Communities must build prevention teams to tie together information and resources ahead of time, and not wait for an attack to happen.

Information simply cannot be left in the field and balls cannot be dropped.

Diligent Training, Preparation

People and communities need to be trained and educated on what they can do to respond to attacks. This includes, but goes well beyond, the “run, hide, fight” we—and our children—have become accustomed to. Advance planning and training are required of all agencies and partners who will jointly respond to mass attacks. This is not just for law enforcement—it is also for fire, EMS, emergency management, and for owners and security managers responsible for protecting public locations.

Supporting Mass Attack Defenses

In order to foster the prevention and mitigation efforts, there needs to be institutional support. Even though mass attacks are rare, communities can't wait to put these elements together. Federal resources are available. Individual agencies or municipalities can work together to increase their ability to fund and staff efforts, and can leverage existing threat assessment and emergency response–planning efforts

With Pulse in Orlando and now this LGBT bar being shot up, I think it's time staff at these venues be armed. Since these are gay bars and nightclubs, I'm figuring something familiar would be best, thus a pump action would be at the top of the list.

Classic case of thread drift of which I am guilty of starting it. First, it goes without saying that everyone here believes no innocent people deserve or should be shot. I started the drift with comparing how the Liberal media is crying over CO and simply ignores Chicago. It was a comparison of totally different reactions and in no way shape or form was it intended to diminish the deaths of anyone. If anything its the media who diminishes death to suit their narrative buts I'm gonna leave that one alone. Then the analogies became something about a totally different situation and the damn thread went sideways pretty damn quick.

Won’t save the CSPD and prosecutor from addressing how the killer was out on the streets. I expect they’ll be slow-walking release of information like Uvalde. *Someone* is to blame but, early on, careers can be ruined by the media, who are looking to crucify anyone immediately.

Our Bedford, NH Market Basket is teeming with high school kids all wearing badges with “Hello My Name Is Joe/Jane Smith 1 Year” … what they need are pronouns too. I no longer say “Excuse me Sir/Ma’am” like my Iowa upbringing taught me. Such mistakes rank behind the “when are you expecting” ones but end up being needlessly embarrassing.

I had this argument with some coworkers a few years ago. Went down like this:
Take guns from good guys (good guys lose self defense) Good guy guns don't work (take from cops they are good guys with guns) No, they have training (a vet who joined said, I'm trained) crickets for a bit, followed by 'but we need to get guns off the streets' (ours aren't in the streets, they are at home in a safe) Someone could break in and take them (they could club a cop and take theirs or break into a police station) your house is less secure, they could go in and take it right now (no they can't, it's with me now) --oops.... was swiftly escorted off property and written up by HR, but not fired. I later explained to the guy "you created a situation where I was disarmed and forced to leave my firearm in a less secure location, such as my car - proof you stupid liberals are the ones creating all the problems, not gun owners" (another HR visit, followed by 30 day probation).

Rand finds no support for increase risk in gun-free zone, comparing Everytown’s claim that 10% of mass shooting take place in GFZs to CPRC’s (John Lott) claim of >95%. Clearly, apples and oranges are being counted, with Rand extensively caveating GFZ definitions to conclude no conclusion can be made. NY had fewer GFZs prior to their “sensitive places” law, but there was virtually nobody licensed to carry concealed to intervene.

Elsewhere, they go to pains to analyze 65 mass shootings (without revealing why they chose those 65 incidents) to conclude that in 80% of incidents unarmed resistance was successful/partially successful. In only 4 of 65 incidents did an armed bystander successfully intervene (One incident where an unsuccessful armed bystander was pinned down by gunfire).

Their sample size of 65 incidents is way too small to make any useful conclusions, but they have an agenda. If Gun Violence Archive lists 605 mass shooting incidents in 2022 to date (690 in 2021, 610 in 2020) their 90% exclusion rate must sharply bias their conclusions.

I just knew it was going to be an AR15. So now it begins……

Read the article about the hero vet who tackled the deranged attacker. Balls of steel from the sound of it. So sad his daughter’s boyfriend was one of the victims. So sad for all who lost their lives. Praying for the families.

If our politicians put a fraction of the time they spend lining their own pockets and pushing partisan agendas on providing long-term treatment for mental illness, many innocent lives would be spared such horror.

Good thing Fierro was there and went into combat mode. Battle drill for near ambush/far ambush. Near ambush charge because you're already in kill zone, far ambush take cover and return fire. Seems he was in between and unarmed but saw opportunity and acted in a heroic action.
Why was fat bastard not charged for fake bomb threat and a prohibited person? How did this 300lb load get into a club wearing body armor and carrying a rifle and pistol? Need extensive AAR after investigation but it seems pretty obvious what happened.

Media is already exploiting this shooting because obviously it was a white man killing Gays who are a protected class.
Black man killing 3 Black football players at UVA is already yesterday's news, no report on shooter or motivation for killing.
Nothing to see here folks, move on.

I’m married.
I don’t do night clubs. Haven’t done so in a very long time.
>90% of violent crime involves some stupid combination of

15-30 year old males
Alcohol
Illegal drugs
Women
After midnight

One of the few benefits of growing old seems to be avoiding violent crime. Old and boring lifestyle is safe. What’s not to love in that?

Yup, don't hang around bars anymore nor attend concerts/ball games, etc.
Most crowds I see are at Market Basket but those EBD card holders are vicious. [rofl]
Don't go on a Sunday afternoon, you're taking your life into your hands.

I read the article. That is why I believe the former major when he said the rifle was an AR.

They didn’t mention much about the other hero. His resume must have been beyond lack luster.
