I just want to explain one nuance. I'm not going so far as to suggest that these things are totally random. I mean, every mass shooter has a narrative, and that narrative probably dovetails into current events. I'm just saying that the particular kind of mind that considers a mass shooting over something, real or imagined, is going to occur at some baseline frequency in the population no matter what is or isn't going on. If everything were perfect, the narrative they construct to justify their actions will just be entirely disconnected from reality, or it will be about their own failures which are entirely their doing but which they blame on their victims. The latter happens a lot in the "disgruntled former employee" type of mass shooting.
Serious story. Buddy of mine was quite the player when we were young. He said to me one night lets go to this place Stellas in the south end of Boston. I was like isn't that a gay area. He said yes that's the point. That place is overrun with hot straight chicks. They go there because they know gay guys wont hit on them. I'm thinking right, they go there to avoid straight knuckle dragging guys like us. Needless to say we never pulled any women from that place

Just heard Fierro interviewed on NPR - he’s very humble and well-spoken, said he only followed his training, others were more heroic to have acted w/o training, etc. He’d make NRA’s next “good guy with a gun” hero if he’d pulled the trigger on the killer instead of beating him with his own pistol. He didn’t seem the type to accept any such veneration though.
