Some free USGI mil-surp porn on the CMP's auction site right now...NM M1903A3's, two consecutive serial M1C's, a three digit Garand receiver...all of it far too rich for my blood, but awesome to drool over.

Orest is hitting the auctions HARD.

Those rifles where featured in the GCA video Americas Rifle the M1Garand.
They also have some Bavarian carbines soon to be on the block.
M1C service grade with scope base only runs 3k from cmp. I can only emagine what these will fetch.
If I read Orest post correctly. Cmp wants out of rifle sales. Last word was about 2 years worth of M1s. They are going to release some parts for sale soon. Also IHCs. I think soon most items will just go to auction.

I've heard most of the same. I would have thought the IHC's would have been released by now.

You guys missed this Garand enthusiast's wet dream: WWII SA SG
All in all, some very nice auction offerings. I wish I had gotten my LTC sooner; we are nearing the end of the CMP Garands and I don't have enough.

She's pretty--what a great, correct WWII example of an M1. $3,000 is a bit steep though.

They got slammed after Newtown so the release was delayed for a bit.
Slammed is an understatement. Orest said they have "thousands of orders in baskets." IIRC, Orest said they had to pull the armorers off the IHC's to sort and grade SA's and HRA's for the deluge of mail orders. We're still a couple months away from the IHC's. I'm really torn about the IHC's. There is a good chance they will be CMP mixmasters on an IHC receiver. IDK if I will be able to justify the IHC's price increase over the beautiful SA's and HRA's that are available. And of course if you wait to get a report on the condition of the rifles, then it will be too late to order one of your own, because these things are going to sell like hot cakes. Guys over at the CMP forums already have their paperwork printed out for the IHC release, and are just waiting for the item number to complete and overnight their orders.

The thing is, they're not much more rarer than the HRA's. The CMP just doesn't have any left, so the only way you can bag one is on the open market.

Yeah Ray, I get what you're saying. Essentially they're selling tax payers back rifles that the tax payers already paid for. A $625 SG is still a bargain for an M1.

About Us

Meet the CMP Board of Directors

Meet the Director Emeritus of CMP,
Mr. Gary Anderson

Meet the Chief Operating Officer,
Mr. Orest Michaels

The Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) is a national organization dedicated to training and educating U. S. citizens in responsible uses of firearms and airguns through gun safety training, marksmanship training and competitions. The CMP is a federally chartered 501(c)(3) corporation that places its highest priority on serving youth through gun safety and marksmanship activities that encourage personal growth and build life skills. Links on this page will lead you to more detailed information about the CMP and its programs.
Statutory mission. The federal law enacted in 1996 (Title 36 U. S. Code, 0701-40733) that created the Corporation for the Promotion of Rifle Practice and Firearms Safety, Inc. (CPRPFS, the formal legal name of the CMP) mandates these key “functions for the corporation:

(1) To instruct citizens of the United States in marksmanship;

(2) To promote practice and safety in the use of firearms;

(3) To conduct competitions in the use of firearms and to award trophies, prizes, badges, and other insignia to competitors.

The law specifically states: In carrying out the Civilian Marksmanship Program, the corporation shall give priority to activities that benefit firearms safety, training, and competition for youth and that reach as many youth participants as possible.

CMP Governance and Leadership

The CMP is governed by a Board of Directors made up of eleven members who have extensive experience and leadership credentials in military and business. The Chairman of the Board serves as the Chief Executive Officer. The Chief Operating Officer directs CMP sales programs at CMP South headquarters in Anniston, Alabama and oversees day-to-day operation of CMP training and competition programs at CMP North headquarters at Camp Perry, Ohio. The DCM Emeritus is a part-time consultant who works on several projects for the CMP.

was never about rifle sales....but to raise money to promote the cmp mission i guess. It will be over soon enough. Then all the goodies that come in will be auction only. Still a better opption than MR. Crunch

And like all .gov programs the private sector does a much better job overall. (Speaking as someone who is both an active CMP and NRA competitor.)

Had no idea the Bavarian/Austrian carbines commanded such a premium. My CMP Saginaw carbine is marked the same as that auction gun, LGKT. "Land Gendarmerie Kommand Tirol"
It was issued to Austrian Rural Police in Tyrol.

Sweet carbine. It seems you cant get a carbine on the cmp auction for less than a grand. That is what will happen to the Garands when the supply is gone.

I agree with you Terrence. Have you looked outside CMP? i still don't get how people ask for (and get) $900 for a SG garand today but i see it all the time.
I am a CMP member. it isn't that hard to do.

900 for a service grade local.........geez your seeing some good ones. 900 gets you field grade if your lucky in the shops around here. Although I have seen some of the cmp specials for 1500.00

Before the election and Sandy Hook madness, I saw what I would classify as a service grade Garand at a LGS for $1500. Free market and all, but damn. Yearly $25 GOAL membership & proof of live fire/marksmanship training gets you access to these rifles through the CMP.

Check the CMP Forums--very underrated in what you can buy on there. I scored a really nice S.G. Saginaw Plant for $750 (after some negotiating), and I've seen mixmasters listed in the mid $600's. Correct carbines and those with documented CMP pedigrees go for a premium, as do IBM and Winchesters.

It's also a great place for obscure parts. I'm working on restoring an M1903 Mark 1 to original configuration, and there's simply no way I would have done it without the prices and parts availability from the CMP forums.

Yep Obie, that's a great place for parts. I've been trying to track down a couple nice USGI stocks, but the real nice stocks get bought very quickly. Someday I'll get around to buying a carbine, but right now I'm too busy buying Garands.

I sold a service grade with the paperwork from CMP at the Plymouth show for $750. An older gentleman who purchased it years ago just wanted to sell it and that was his asking price. It sat on the rake for the entire day Saturday until a younger guy picked it up and actually looked at the price tag. His eyes opened wide and almost dropped his wallet to buy it.

That's not a bad price depending on the serial # and the wood, particulalry if you can't for some reason muster up the CMP requirments. However, the Great Panic of 2013 is starting to hit Garands. I didn't see one Garand < $1k at the Marlboro show.

I'd say that was a good price for a SG in this climate. +1

I just saw a nice Winnie M1 Carbine go on gunboards for $750. it was posted 10mins before I saw it. i kept looking and thinking and looking and thinking. i just did not want to drop the cash. 15 mins later it was gone.

i was disappointed and relieved all at the same time
