Cheaper than dirt price gouging!

Sometimes I would rather they gouge, ie if you really want something relatively cheap like an AR lower during a crisis run on the stuff, tripling the price might stop the hoarding while still allowing the folks who really want one to buy it.

My only issue with price gouging is it preys on the retarded, who simply don't know better - ie in our situation a new gun owner unaware that a Taurus G2 is worth $250 on it's best day and not $700 or something.. but I question the concept of legislating it, especially in the information age where people can easily identify a fair price.

In the end stuff is worth what people are willing to pay and in the long run gouging gets remembered and its not good for business.

If the vendor sees the 30 cases left of 5.56 as the last they can get & sell for months I argue it is worth whatever they can get. Or the same for that 2000 gallons of gasoline.

I'm not sure I have ever bought anything from cheaper than dirt - just generally they are never the best deal.

i have been in this game long enough to remember when a Russian SKS for $250 was price gouging. A pristine Nagant/ Enfield for $150 was ridiculous price gouging. And a stripped AR lower for $100 was insane. Without even getting into all the orig “pre-ban” stuff..

price gouging is sticker shock today. And wishful ”I should have grabbed that while I could” next week/ year.

unless you have a crystal ball and are psychic. Nobody knows what is the new “normal”

It's one thing to point out to others that someone is charging high prices for something (i.e., informing the marketplace). Even calling it price gouging. People are free to make their own choice whether they wish to pay those prices or not.

It's quite another to demand that something be done by government to control said pricing practices (i.e., control the means of production). Down that path is socialism/communism. Of course today, given how much governmental control there is of many markets, effectively creating and enforcing monopolies, demanding government action makes sense, if it is demanding less government, not more.

Demanding action from a private entity without force of government is still just an opinion. Said private entity is free to make their own decisions. See paragraph 1. With force of government? See paragraph 2.

IMNSHO. YMMV. IANAL. I did not sleep at a Holiday Inn Express last night.

I've bought stuff from CTD. Generally been satisfied, but I have relative low expectations for them and price-compare accordingly.

Seems NES had a few whiners reporting "price gouging" in the NES Classifieds, to the Admin? To the point a Mod had to post a notice to stop reporting it?
Yup. I made light of the moment to the chagrin of the mods but I still had that one moment of fun.

I remember a long long time ago they had pretty good prices... that changed and I never looked back... same thing with Bulkammo.com hasn’t been a great site for well over a decade... 🤦🏻‍♂️

Supply and demand would certainly dictate a higher price based on increased demand on an existing supply. (At least until sellers can get resupplied. )

Price gouging is when certain sellers take advantage of a short term situation when people are frightened and charge $1000 for a case of ammunition that is normally $295, but others are now selling for $350, $400 or maybe $500. The $1000 case at cheaper than dirt is gouging. state government enact anti gouging laws so that in times of hurricanes blizzards and Kung flu people are not unfairly cheated b6 unscrupulous vendors.

Why do people buy from CTD anyways? The company is awful.

I've bought tons of stuff from them. Yes, if you spend hours looking all around you can find lower prices. But simple click and it shows up a couple of days later. I have no complaints.

Usually anti gouging laws is for shit like water, gasoline, food, etc, or things more like that. Ammo fit that? maybe.

IMHO whining about price gouging is generally stupid though. It's better to just shut up and not pay it. Or buy as little of it
as you need to get by until the market gets less retarded.

Also WRT hurricane, blizzards, and kung flu... most people don't live in a cave. They usually get enough warning, but wait until the last minute. We're talking days here, not a couple of hours. There are litterally no excuses with this one. I bought 3000 rounds of 9mm a week before things went full retard, at 8-9 bucks a box. Even 2-3 weeks before this the "signs" were starting to show that it was a good idea to buy. If someone who is sometimes slow on the uptake, like myself can smell "bad shit coming" because wuhan chinaflu, then I have a hard time feeling bad for those complaining.

It also assures that people face situations like not being able to buy generators at $800 instead of being able to buy them for $1600. Some of these price gouging laws go so far as to prevent people from entering the market, or incurring arbitrage overhead, because profit becomes a dirty word and it is better to let people go without that let someone make money off a disaster.

“Gouging” is what happens to people that are unprepared. The free market is a wonderful thing. Pay or not, it’s your choice. Why should anyone sell from their stockpile if they are not allowed to do so at a profit? If the market is not free then I’ll just hold onto my guns, ammo, toilet paper, bottled water, masks, gloves, etc.

But "gouging" prices are caused by people who are already prepared, rushing to buy everything they can, just in case.

I'll bet most NES readers have all the ammo they could possibly need in the immediate future, many times over. If all your magazines are full right now and you have a few boxes left over, that's you. If you're a regular recreational or competitive shooter looking to resupply, now is a good time to stop shooting for a while.

If you (the generic "you", not @CrackPot) haven't prepped beyond that, then it's your own damn fault if you start panic-buying when everyone else does.

I couldn't begin to tell you how much ammo I have. I couldn't even tell you how many guns I have, without going to count.

I do have at least some ammo for all my guns. If I didn't, they'd at least make darn good bludgeons.

Haha, no. Every Sunday I'm home until I literally can't find or (if I had to) make ammo.

I might not dump a mag of .308 for awhile, which I tend to do one or twice on a trip if I have a short AR10 with me. But I will shoot - probably more longer range and pistol stuff than usual because its just as fun and less ammo intensive.

Eight hundred bucks for a case of Blazer aluminum.
They did the same when Obama was elected. And more than once during his presidency when there was a mass shooting.

I cant understand why people continue to support that sh*thole. Maybe it is the same people that support Walmart to save $1/box.

I am sure others remember.

So all the people saying price gouging, will you sell me gold ou bought years ago at $100oz, or will you sell it for market rate ?

Stop being hypocrites.
When every single gun store starts charging $800 for a case of 9mm, I will understand.

Not even KTP, Cabelas or Bass Pro go to that level of retardation. And their ammo prices are pretty bad.

I am not saying they shouldnt be allowed to charge whatever they want, this is a free country, change $1M for all I care. But I still think what these guys do is being full blown a**holes.

If you go back to the beginning of the Corona Virus thread, myself and a few others were buying things as early as January and beginning of February, while a lot of NES members were giving us sh*t. I even got sh*t for buying food I would eventually consume, so all I was doing was spending the money earlier. That's around the time DENCH said he would eat sh*t.

Then skip about 100 pages to late February and you start seeing all the desperate NES members and threads like the sitrep pop up.

Even in NES people like to deny and not be prepared.

It's a choice - have 9x19 Blaze AL available at $39/box or have it not available at $9.

Ooops. CTD is all out. Guess $39 was a fair market price after all.

No, its not, considering I was just at a place an hour ago that was selling it for like $14/box today and there was a few thousand rounds there on the shelf. There's legit cost adjustments for real supply issues and then there's rape. CTD is full cosby on a lot of shit even when there's no corona. I would find it hard to believe they actually sold much at that price. Then again lots of people are lazy/dumb so if they can sell it for that, good for them. I have witnessed these numbskulls myself seeing people pay $76 for a brick of 600 .22LR during obamascare 2... [rofl]

It is also possible that the price was the result of software that looked at purchasing patterns, competitors, etc. and dynamically adjusted the price. You are correct - there is a good chance the price was found to be too high and came down. I remember a case when two vendors set their algorithm to something like 5% above the other guys price, with no limit and the price for a small product (might have been a book) rose beyond any reason.

Seeing people I respect, both here and elsewhere, defending CTD's opportunistic price gouging in every "good crisis" that comes along as some sort of benevolent humanitarian public service to us all turns my stomach. [thinking]

I consider myself fortunate to have lived my entire life without giving those greedy fools one red cent. [mg]

I am not sure about price gouging, but there prices s*ck. I am looking to restock on some CCI Quiet-.22 semi auto, others are between $3.99 to $ 4.29, but there price is $ 6.49 with there " club" and $ 6.99 with out, and they are all out.

Look. We all know those shops that take advantage of less experienced gun owners. CTD is no different. No law against it, but damn. Picking up 18yo girls at the Port Authority bus station, getting them hooked on heroin and turning them out is legal but probably not ethical either.

Oh wait. That might be illegal. ROFL!!!
