Been Practicing

50 cal round ball, hammer , lube and some hard wood dowels.... I have been playing with a 45-70 that belongs to a friend. The bore is well worn and find the bullets do not do well 400 gn .458"
Slugged the bore and it's slugging out at .470" with the muzzle end being loose. We are going to either try and find a mold closer to .490 or paper patch some .450" bullets until we some accuracy.

I have a hard wooden cleaning rod and .50 round balls, but no micrometer.

You can buy a cheap caliber to get a rough measurement. Poke around castboolits.com plenty of guys loading these old big bores. 45-70 is my first run. We used trail boss 12grains.
