A .408 CheyTac is perfectly legal in the PRM. It's a 40S&W with alittle more "umph" behind it...alot more! Barett made his 416 to get around some misguided states banning the 50BMG. CheyTac does the same. The CheyTac is not an assault weapon (unless you consider it assaults anti-gunners sensibilities). If you can afford it, feed it, then buy it. I don't know where you'll find a range over 1,000 yards for it to "get into its own". But its actually better than a 50BMG...just more costly. Enjoy.
His initial post is utter crap, to which steaming pile he added despite challenges for a citation and input from those who actually "have a clue." That transcends mere misinformation.
Where's that "Bad Newbie" picture now that we need it?

You can build a totally custom rifle that will out shoot it with thousands of dollars to spare. It's all marketing hoopla IMO. From what I heard, one of the coaches at the Army Marksmanship Unit went out to look at it and was not all that impressed.

Why don't you guys chill out and think about the situation for a moment. Some brand new member to the forum shows up and asks a rather simple question about the legality of a clearly legal (so far anyway) rifle. No one knows this poster from Adam, while you at least have a few dozen of my own posts to look at. You know nothing about lobe, you know that I am one of the more libertarian, government suspicious folks here.
What if lobe is a reporter from the Globe? What if he/she/it is some drone of Rosenthal or Patrick or some other nefarious wingbat? Why would you immediately surrender some easy information, maybe to confirm that the laws in this State are indeed too lenient, because Lord knows what a .408 could do to a cop in body armor, even if he's hidden behind his cruiser? Why?
You're all a lot more naive that you can afford to be. If lobe is legit, he/she'll forgive the precaution and realize that it's rather easy to find the information he/she'll needs to acquire said rifle. If not, we've at least made it difficult for a gun grabber to confirm a well known (for us) point of law. Further, if lobe is legit and doesn't understand the precautionary spread of misinformation, then I don't really think he/she understands what we're up against in this state and indeed in this country. Some people are too far gone in this socialist house of mirrors.
So please, get off your high horses, do a gut check when someone is being this outrageously wrong, and think if there is some tactical reason for it. I am not a clever person, but even I can confuse a potential adversary with seemingly true information, that will turn away an impotent attempt at forming the next round of right-busting legislation. If most of my posts - if any of you bothered to look - are okay, then think why I might not be in this case. I really can't believe that none of you figured this out. For Christ's sake, this is war. Be on your toes!

For the record, I am perfectly legit. I have a Massachusetts Class A LTC and own a number of rifles already.
The reason I asked this in the first place was because I had a number of people give me misinformation about the Cheytac. all the research I did seemed to prove that it is a perfectly legal rifle to own in MA, but I figured I would ask the guys that would know this in the forum.
So just to clear up any misconceptions about why I asked this in the first place.

I would also like to point out that Lobe is a paid member and Gabe is not. I am glad that you got your question answered correctly.
I also have to agree with LenS, that Gabes behavior is despicable, and I also feel if you do this again you should be banned. It is not how we operate here. We are here to help all to try and understand the rediculous laws we have to deal with here in MA. If you don't like how we operate find another board to troll on.
