Thanks Mike
Does anyone have more infomation on this. I would like to know. I live in CT and about to move to North Carolina next year.
You have to take a good look at a given state's laws to see what they do
and do not allow. I would wager a guess with CT requiring permitting for
handguns that they don't allow it for anyone under 21.
In NC according to the NRA's law guide the "mere posession" age for
handguns is 18. You will not be able to carry a pistoi (eg conceal
carry) until you are 21, however. But this would not prohibit you from
owning a handgun, and using it at a range, etc. You'd have to dig further
into the law.
The pain in the ass part is that if you are under 21 your ability to purchase
handguns (and ammo) is extremely limited because you cannot obtain
one from an FFL. (due to overriding federal laws acting on what the dealer
can and cannot do) This means you'd have to acquire one at a private sale (assuming such a notional exists in NC, you'd have to check the laws).
