2015 Fishing/Ice Fishing Thread

Fished Comet Pond in Hubbardston yesterday. Was on the schedule to be stocked last week. Not a single fish popped up on my fishfinder. I talked to a couple other guys using fish finders and they said not a single fish showed up on theirs either. I did catch one 8" long smallmouth. I should have taken a pic just because I think it was the only fish in the whole pond. Still a nice pond to kayak around.

Fish were biting at Comet pond this morning at 7am. They must have stocked it this past week.

Caught this little guy paddle trolling a crankbait:

The 5 or 6 bass I caught probably add up the pic above of the one Boxerjake caught [laugh]:

Friend and I almost (14) maxed out on Black Sea Bass Friday out of Bass River.
Fun day of fishing and some really good eating. Had fish for breakfast today.
Guys said the striper fishing was pretty slow.

Wish i had a scale with me.

Been a busy spring, just gonna post them all I guess. I landed 350lbs of totoug this may, and although not a lot for 3 weeks the bite was slow so it stayed open longer and the price was higher than usual

All these great fish....maybe we need a NES fishing get together, Bass tournament anyone?....I know not guns, but we could always pair it with a swap meet or have firearm related prizes? No we won't be shooting fish in a barrel......[rofl]

Good idea, but may be tough to organize.

Count me in.

Here's some more carnage from the "Fishbone" we've done a couple friends and family trips since tog closed commercially. Next Saturday I am doing a charity charter for the Wounded Warriors Projects operation reel heroes and am honored to take a few vets out for a day of fishing!

Just getting back into fishing after more than a decade away. Picked up a rod/reel combo and heading out to Natick Outdoor Store for lures and assorted tackle tomorrow. Can't wait to get back out there! First stop will be where I used to go with my father on Lake Cochituate over by the old Prime Computer building.

Dicks in Saugus had 4" & 5" Field & Stream Sugar Stix, buy 2 @ $4.99 get 3 free. That's a great deal when you consider the Senkos are $7.25 +/-. It comes out to just under $2.00 a bag.

You guys are embarrassing me with your big fish pics. Nice morning of fishing on Whitehall Reservoir today. Caught a few each of 4 different species, but the sizes were a little crappie:

ETA: that fish is a crappie if you don't get my horrible pun

I've got the Dragonfly too. I don't think I've ever seen a fish on it though. What signature does the fish read? Maybe I oughta read the instructions. [rofl]

I downloaded the 128 page instruction pdf before I bought it. There is not a single page that describes how the fish appear on the sonar. I watched a few youtube videos and most of the ones I've seen are showing bigger school of saltwater species. In some videos I see traditional arches and others seem more like dots.

Today was my second time using it since I've only had it about 10 days. So far, for $269, I like it. I am more concerned with knowing water depth, temp, and seeing structure. I really like seeing how fast I am going too. If I ever see a good image of a fish on the downvision, I will do a screenshot. Cool feature that I probably won't use much.

Took the wife fishing today - she caught half dozen small mouths and was pleased as can be. I've been trying to get her into fishing and now she's hooked (Ha! More puns for the thread!). All I need to do now is get her hunting and my evil plan will be complete.

Sorry - no pics. We were in the canoe and I wasn't sure of how stable she would be, so we left the phones in the car. Turns out she was one of the best canoe partners I've had in a long time. Should have brought the phone.

Fish on a Fishfinder can all look different, here's some pics of striped bass on mine, I don't fresh water fish much but I'd think they would mark similar. What you are looking for is targets suspended in the water column, or close to the bottom.

Same school but so thick my machine couldn't find the actual bottom

I can't imagine anyone not getting hooked on fishing after catching some smallies!!

Took a buddy who's a stream trout fisherman to the Quabbin last week. Caught his first smallies. Now he's bugging me to take him again.

Fished the Ashland Reservoir this morning in the rain. I had a couple of bites but didn't land anything. The other NES member I went with got a small bass and damn near had a pickerel jump into his lap. Didn't land it, though.

Hoping for better next week.
