Actually YES....that means you have NO friggin clue what your talking about cubicle warrior.
OK, guess an open mind debate is out of the question here.
Looks like all I am going to get is that COPs are always right and victims always wrong. I thought there would be some more of a discussion about this situation. And 50 COPs on one with a knife?? Yes, I have a problem with that. Just draw and kill, that is all the police can do; I think they are better than that.
No other options it sounds like. No need to further pile it on me if you feel that way members. I get your point, was just looking for a discussion.
I'm not judging the officers involved as I wasn't there. But, with all the overuse of tasers we see against non-violent individuals, wouldn't this have been the ideal use of one? I mean, taser the fruitloot the moment you lay eyes on the knife. Again there may have been reasons why that wasn't the appropriate route, but it does seem like that's what they were made for.

From one of our resident LEO:
I was NOT there and am only going on what was reported on the news, but three cops and they have to kill her?
I am all for protecting yourself and am sure this will be "justified", but if it was my profession (police officer) I would not be happy with the outcome. Stun-gun? Krav Maga or other type of training to get the knife away? Again, 3 cops and 1 woman, who did not sneak up on them and who they knew had a mental issues, just seems like killing her should have been avoided.
Just to be clear, I just think there should be a better way. If it was one cop who was attacked by a woman with a knife, or even three that where ambushed, I could see her being shot. But THREE cops that had her cornered. Hmmmmm.
What if it was three of "us" citizens being attacked by her and one killed her, would it be so cut-and-dry???
Nope, never have. Guess that means I don't count right? I was never Gov. of MA either, but I know the one we have ain't the best choice. Never played Pro Baseball either, but I know I good hitter when I see one......on and on

I was looking to discuss if there was another way this could have gone down. But thanks for all the condescending replies, they were great. I know critical thinking is dead, so I am not at all surprised. AGAIN, I get what the consensus is from this thread. Just thought maybe there could have been a better way to go about it BEFORE they got stabbed. How dare I question authority right?
You then introduce a specious argument citing governors and baseball players.
If they went in guns blazing, like you seem to be suggesting, than they probably wouldn't have been stabbed.

Whenever anybody uses open hand defense against a knife, they are getting cut. Period. And a knife makes a wound that is far worse than a gunshot.
A tazer? Didn't work on Rodney King, may or may not have worked here. It's not the end all of all fights. Plus, people have been dying from tazers, even after the fact. You're interupting their heartbeat rythm-can't be good for you.
Crazy people seem to have super human strength. Try fighting one in a small confined area, in the summer heat, and you'll know what a real fight is. You can employ all the super-duper, Kraga Maga, whatever moves, and they are probably not going to work. At all.
Against a knife, the only sure thing is a firearm, from as far away as possible. Up close, when you are suprised by someone with a blade, you'll have to try to bundle him/her, but you will get hurt. All the armchair commandos in the world will try to tell you different, or tell how they'd disarm someone with a knife, but they are full of it. They talk a lot, but I've been there and seen it. It's not a pretty thing, but it's not a pretty world.
Critical thinking is not dead. You were provided with many thoughtful answers. However, it appears that your "feeelings" have priority over your "critical thinking" skills.
I just don't feel that because I never tried to disarm a crazy lady I am not allowed an opinion.
There is not need to look further into that statement. I am not saying I know everything and have all the answers (like some)..."
I was just looking to discuss. From the replies, nobody seems to think a situation like this can be better resolved in the future; and that is fine. AGAIN, I was just wanted to see if MAYBE there could have been a better way.
There is some great insight in this thread. But I still think critical thinking is dead, not only in cases like this but overall. As far as my skills on the subject of critical thinking, I think you need a bigger sample of my thoughts on issues before you assume my feelings take priority. Seems only fair right?
Here we go again, I NEVER SAID THAT!
OK, this is turning into an attack on me and there is next to no talk about what happened. Thanks for the insight to those who provided it and sorry for bringing a different view to the situation. I am sure you will be happy to hear it will not happen again on here.
Huh...I didn't know they weren't ubiquitous.
So did he shoot her? Or get real lucky with an ND?
