Depending on where you're located, WalMart has a pretty good deal on .22 ammo. $8 for 500 (or 550) rounds of Winchester SuperX. I stay stocked up, it's cheaper than my wholesale sources.

Nickle, what Walmart do you shop at? We asked at Abington a couple of months ago and they said that they didn't carry it. So did Raynham.

You're going to hate this answer.

Ticonderoga, New York. I live a few hours from Mass.

Try a New Hampshire Wal-Mart.

Walpole DID carry ammo (haven't been in there since July). Of course after NO, I was told that many LA Wal-Marts were told to pull ALL their guns/ammo off the shelves. Wouldn't be surprised if they did that here too!

Attleboro Wal-Mart does NOT carry any ammo . . . they lost their license (town issued). Search here for more details.

Hudson, NH carries ammo. I don't know if they're stocking the Winchester .22, but I'll check next time I'm in.

I'll usually hit up the Wally World in Halifax for ammo as it is one of the
last few Walmarts on the South Shore that sells guns/ammo. Weymouth
stopped, I believe, when the manager who held the license left to go to
another store. They've been saying for close to a year and a half now
that they'll be getting it 'soon', which of course means never.
I believe Abington lost their license for gun/ammo sales for pretty much
the same reason as well. Manager with the license left and new manager
doesn't care or bother to get his/her license.

The Hudson, MA Walmart stopped selling guns; they said it was because they weren't selling enough to make it worth their while to stock them.

They do sell ammo still, though, plus some hunting accessories. Still can't see how $20 for 100 rounds of Winchester .45 is a real bargain, though.

Last time I was there the guy who had the keys was definitely NOT a gun person - had NO idea what he was looking at. I had to show him what a box of .22LR looked like. there's another guy there - African-American (what I'd call "black" if I wasn't being PC) slim, in his 30's - who knows what he's doing. I can't remember his name right now, but he's a good guy.

Salem NH Walmart still sells guns.. and they have plenty of Winchester value packs. Its where I pick mine up

A lot of people knock wal-mart and refuse to buy ammo there. But it is so much more easy when your going shooting for the day and you can pick up your beer, beef jerky and ammo all in one place! [twisted]

I don't think any of the WM's around me sell beer, not that I would drink and shoot. I buy ammo there only cause it's on the way to the range. I can buy ammo at the range but it cost way more. When I can I try to go to the local shop and show some support for them.

I haven't seen it in any other states, but the super wal-marts up here all stock beer. BTW the beer is for AFTER the shooting. [twisted]

Then again this is Maine where I have personally been told by friends that they wake up at the crack of dawn and start drinking immediately and then go hunting with buddies all day. I've been told its normal. That why I don't jog outside during hunting season.

Halifax, MA Walmart usually has ammo and is easy enough in and out. Especially if they ring you up in the gun dept. Can't figure it out, sometimes they ring me up in the gun dept, sometimes they escort w/ammo up to registers in the front of the store.

Went to the NEW Plymouth Walmart yesterday. Never go there again. What a zoo. Waited for over 30 mins for someone to come to the gun dept to get me some ammo. No one showed so I left.

Back when I was in Ohio, I used to pick up ammo at Walmart all the time.

Haven't done it since I've been in MA as I haven't found one that carries it yet. Well, at least the ones that I've been to.

I go to Dicks to get my shot shells. They have really good sales a lot, so it's cheaper to get them there.

Just a heads-up . . . Dick's has a coupon in today's flier . . . 2nd box of ammo 1/2 price. Too bad it would cost me more than I'd save to drive to the nearest Dick's.

Attleboro Wal-Mart seems to have lost their state ammo/firearms license due to stupidity! Allegedly they sold ammo to a MSP Trooper in uniform without a LTC (LE can carry/possess without LTC, but they can't buy anything)! I know that I've argued with the morons at the Walpole Wal-Mart when they asked me for my "FID" for .45 pistol ammo (not legal, after I told them it was for a defensive handgun course). I told them that I didn't have an FID, only a LTC and that was what it was needed. Their response was FID, LTC, they all the same to them! They are leaving themselves open to be "stung" and shutdown that store's ammo sales too (they no longer sell guns there).

So what happens if someone has an FID and a lever action in 44 Magnum?
How can they buy ammo? Seems pretty arbitrary to me.

F

By the law they are supposed to ask you if it's for pistol or rifle and ask for the appropriate permit accordingly. Yes, you can lie. But in my case, I specifically told them what I wanted it for and asked them for 1K .45.

The violation was that they KNEW that it was for pistol and asked for a rifle permit. Dumb!

I pushed it with them because they were being such idiots. [roll]

You know that the opened one up back where the NA Wally World is, right? Right next to Lowes?

I mean, if you're already out here, then you're right next to Dick's.

Yes, that is the Dick's that I have visited a few times. As luck would have it I haven't had any work down in that area for a few weeks now.

Not a big deal as WallyWorld prices for what I might need would probably be approx the same as Dick's with the discount. Probably only need .38SP now to see if my Wife can shoot the revolvers. Lots of other stuff and hope to get back reloading by the beginning of November.

Before they opened the new super WalMart, the old store had rifles and lots of ammo. Now at the new store, very little ammo and the rifles are gone. BB guns only.
The Sports Authority in Plymouth opened about a year ago. Lots of rifles, shot guns, and ammo. Now, all rifles/shotguns and ammo gone. BB guns only.
Dick's Just opened in Plymouth a couple of weeks ago. I haven't been yet to see what they have.

Jon,

Check with your chief!

After talking with some of the folks at a few different Wal-Marts a year or two ago, I seem to get the same story.

It appears that many chiefs "forbid" these stores from selling certain things. One store told me that their chief allowed sales of rifles, but NO paintball or BB guns, etc.

Not sure how legal the restrictions are, but they seem to be real.

I was at Dick's in Plymouth a few weeks ago.
They were still in the process of setting up displays and getting stuff in order. I had the chance to speak with one of the sales associates who had worked at M&M's a few years ago. He said that the permits for dealing in firearms/ammo weren't quite ready to go, but they should be set in a week's time or so.
They had the basic generic assortment of stuff out on display; 10/22's. a bunch of Marlin lever actions and bolt guns, some Savages and quite a few shotguns and modern muzzle loaders. The ammo was down on a shelf underneath the rifle display and it wasn't easy to see what they actually had and the prices.
They had an a few isles devoted to gun accessories as well.
I'll be back from time to time as they did have a few things I would normally need.
It sure isn't Four Seasons, but it's a start.

Interesting... the Hudson Walmart has tons of paintball supplies. 'Course, I don't know of any paintball places anywhere near here, but hey... they got gun, balls, goggles, CO2 (I think), etc.

There's also a paintball store in Marlboro next to the fire station on Pleasant St, too.

Only place I've ever seen paintballs used was for the 3rd degree!!!

Funny you should mention that, Bro Crabb... Franklin Lodge had a Paintball Day this summer and will have another one next summer. Should I let you know when it gets scheduled? It will probably be out in Leicester again... bit of a haul for you, I think!

Ya know Ross.........I gotta tell ya.........
I dare say that would surely attract a lot of attention from outside the district!
You let me know when the time comes and I'll see if I can stir up some interest around here. A little recreational trip to another district sounds like it could work out well for all involved.
I once went down to NYC to watch Garabaldi Lodge bring in 16 (count 'em, sixteen!) candidates for a 1st degree. Now THAT was a show!

the more posts I read on this forum, the more I'm convinced moving to Maine was the right decision.

if my local wal-mart doesn't have what I'm looking for in both ammo or gun, they'll order it and call me when it comes in.

I went in last week and told the guy I was looking for something for some raccons I've been having problems with. After talking a bit, and playing with a couple of 22's, I left with a Savage mark 2 and a box of CB longs. works like a champ, nice and quiet and knocks them down quick and clean.

So far our "guy" hasn't restricted that stuff. You can buy paintball and airsoft at WalMart and a few other places arouond town.
I think WalMart might just be testing their firearms markets. Seems the more rural places have the firearms and the higher populated don't. The selection in Plymouth was never really that great. When I go out to W. Mass or rural NY state, there lots of rifles and ammo in the racks. Just an observation.
