I was shooting my Romanian Tokarev at the range today and after 48 rounds of factory PPU ammo, I felt something hit me in the chest and noticed the hammer was back and a spring was hanging out of the slide.

I couldn't find the part that hit me but I'd assume it was the firing pin? I've got about 300+ rounds of PPU and surplus run through with no issues until today. I noticed the pin on the side of the slide was hanging out which obviously I need to put tape over or something to hold it in. That's what obviously let the part going flying out of the slide.

Needless to say I couldn't find the firing pin on the ground in the leaves. Anyone have some advice/tips on avoiding this and where I can get parts for the gun? Thanks.

Haha didn't hurt at all, just lightly hit me. But I'm trying to figure out what parts I need and if it was just the firing pin that flew out? I'd assume parts shouldn't be too hard to come by? Ever encounter this before?

No direct experience, but google quickly came up with http://www.robertrtg.com/store/pc/Tokarev-TT33-c175.htm

Thanks for the link! I'll admit I was lazy and haven't searched on Google yet. Thought I'd share my experience with fellow NESers who have Tokarevs.

That would not happen to a Glock. [smile]

Ya but this gun is over 60 years old and cost me a little over $200 [laugh]. So I'm not too shocked that something went wrong with it.

Thanks! Didn't know about that site. Looks like it is just the firing pin. I have no idea how I couldn't find the damn firing pin on the ground! I wonder if I should order another firing pin retainer pin too since the old one seems to be worn out and doesn't stay in?

At least it didn't go grenade on you!

Yeah it could have been much worse for sure. It wasn't moving that fast since it's just the force of that small firing pin spring that forced it out.

Damn retainer pin is sold out. I need to prevent the pin from falling out. Maybe mushroom one end of the pin with a hammer?

Looks like the firing pin retainer is still in the slide (from the left hand side view). Maybe the firing pin broke at the necked down area where the retainer crosses it. Drift out the retainer pin and see if the rest of the firing pin comes out.

After studying the drawing, either the retainer pin broke or is worn and/or the firing pin retainer notch is broke/worn. Would replace both items.

If anything is generally going to break on a TT33 it will be the firing pin or retainer.
Carefully check the slide where the pin went through.
Worst part is finding parts in stock at one place.http://www.gunpartswarehouse.com/pistol-parts/tokarev-tt-33-m57.html

Also as mentioned gun parts corp. If you have C&R fax in a copy and get 10% off most items.

I have had 2 failures on my Yugoslav and romanian one the trigger spring broke the other the trigger pin ? Old guns what can you do?

Ya the retainer pin is still in the slide but it's not one of those split pins that are suppose to be in the Tokarevs. It's just a regular pin so there's no resistance to hold it in. I took out the pin and only the spring is inside, no firing pin. Just bought both parts now.

Thanks for the links mac! I wasn't aware of gunpartswarehouse. They had both parts in stock and free shipping. Not terribly cheap for 2 small pieces of metal but whatever, I need them.

I need .....yeah that tends to cost you.
As far as what pin is supposed to be in there. The original pin should have a shoulder on one end and a split shoulder end on the other. Like a half spring pin. The split spring pin is generally used in overhaul as the original pins are more expensive to manufacture.http://www.ebay.com/itm/TT-33-Tokar...in-New-machined-made-in-the-USA-/230863481589

sheesh,, who sold you that POS???

sorry Andrew. it always worked well for me..... maybe your too tough on the old thing.. [wink]

all kidding aside, I never fired anything but milsurp ammo with it. do you think the PPU is the same velocity and pressure?

The ppu fmj is pretty stout by memory I was getting mid to high 1600fps. Much like the surplus, stuff.

Haha I was almost going to message you and bust your chops about selling me a POS [laugh]. Yeah I'm wondering if the PPU is too stout. It definitely had a good amount of recoil but it's been a while since I've shot the surplus ammo since I've started reloading for it. I'll have to chrono surplus vs PPU vs my reloads.

I already ordered a new firing pin and retainer pin so hopefully it will be fine after that. I only have one more box of PPU to shoot and then I'll just shoot my reloads = 86 gr soft point + 7.5 gr Power Pistol seated to cannelure. Shoots great.
