Starting a UZI build using Mckay Receiver and bolt

Receiver came in yesterday at Collectable Arms and Ammo in Merrimack NH. But they were closed. Had sign on door that they were closed on 11-8 and they were people inside. Strange. Will go back today and try and get the receiver. I can start to assemble some of it this weekend. Barrel will not be here til Wednesday.

I thought long and hard about building an Uzi, then this deal fell in my lap for 1200.

If you need more mags, RTG Intl. has them at a pretty respectable price. There's also a "park tank special" of 50 magazines with light surface rust for $475 shipped.

I got the Uzi Barrel from Green Mountain Barrels in North Conway. They are the manufacturer. Looks good. fits great. I got the replacement semi auto sear as well and I used some guncoat I got from one of the uzi suppliers to paint the receiver. It came out well. I now have all the parts and will be starting the build this week.

Did you try dry fitting all the parts together before? I ended up having to rework some parts to fit the McKay receiver. The tabs for the top cover latch were welded a little crooked so the latch couldn't slide under them on one side. And then the t-bar that retains the buttstock bracket was also a little crooked and I had to file some material off my buttstock bracket to get it to fit. Luckily I checked it all before refinishing the parts.

After that, yeah everything goes together real easy and fast. Like WW said, seriously like 10 minutes. Even putting all the parts back into the grip after welding in the blocking plate only takes like 5 minutes if you remember how the springs go.

Just picked up my receiver and bolt today!! hope to have a little time this weekend to play... Thanks for turning me on to McKay... they were excellent to deal with..

I finally built the uzi. I also had the tabs for the top cover latch were welded a little crooked issue and It took a little work to fix this. But it is all together now.
Going to the range tomorrow to test it out.

Why is the front grip too far forward? It should sit back about an inch or so. (unless you stuck it on there for the pic lol ) I am waiting on my US grips from uzigrips to match my stock I made.

What happened!!! Haven't heard anything back, did you make it to the range.. or did you run into problems.....

Between weather and a week in Columbus Ohio on business, it took a little longer to go to the range. I did go the other day to Nashua Fish and Game and the Uzi worked perfectly.

What was your total cost to build front to back? I already have one, but could use a second hehehe.

Awesome, thanks for the update.... Mine is together now, just looking for a barrel. I almost used the barrel and bolt from my IMI 45 kit, but realized I can't since it's never been used, as my 9mm preban Uzi has not been shot either.... but naaaa, couldn't do it. I'll have to wait till I find a barrel.... plus, I really can't run it at my local range as it's closed until after deer season..

I got a Green Mountain Uzi barrel from the company in North Conway NH. Full auto barrel will not work. Only a semi-auto barrel will fit. They put a half moon at the end of the receiver so that a full auto one will not fit. The semi-auto has a half moon one side and fits perfectly.

The differences in the full auto barrels and the semi are actually the size of the front band on the barrels (smg is larger than the Semi)and the rear
of the semi barrel is turned down to fit the hooded barrel ramp for the semi.

the half moon is the same on both barrels. (and is there so the barrel will not rotate) (or should be for a full size UZI. ) I just got done converting a smg barrel to fit in my gun (with a welded barrel extension to make it legal 16"+ )

The front of the smg trunnion is a larger ID than the semi which is the same size front and back.
