hello:thinking of having a gun done by gary reeder.1st is it leagal to have one done in ma.and can i send it myself or do i have to go the ffl route.
any thoughts out there? larry mac

It is legal for the owner of a gun in MA to send it to ANY FFL anywhere in the USA to have work done on it. You ship it directly (handgun via FedEx or UPS Air only, long guns can go ground or USPO) to the FFL and the FFL ships it back directly to you.

It is legal for the owner to have a gun customized, trigger job, reset to Free America trigger pull, etc.

You might want to read the comments about Gary Reeder in these forums before you choose a custom gunsmith:

I had a custom Ruger New Vaquero done by David Clements and am very pleased with his work. I recommend him without reservation.
He rechambered it from .357 to .44 Special, rebarreled with a custom barrel, and fitted custom front and rear sights. It is a pure joy to shoot.

You can send a handgun to a gunsmith via common carrier, UPS, fedex, etc, but NOT through the post office. I opted to pay the fees for my local FFL to send and receive my gun because I work out of town and would not be around to sign for it.
