RUGER SFAR 🦅

Buy one. Sure, there’s a few lemons out there and they get the spotlight but from my experience and everyone else’s here, it’s a solid and reliable build. Ruger will fix it if it’s broke, but chances are it’s not going to be.
Around 500 rounds through my 16” from Wolf steel case to gold medal match and hand loads from 125 grain projectiles up to 178. Just leave the gas wide open and it’ll run like a dream. Recoil on fully open gas isn’t harsh at all so why invite problems into your life by turning it down to 2? We’ll see
about the proprietary bolt in a few thousand rounds, but decent .308 is still around $1/rd. (I too see options for less, I’m averaging!) and I’m not looking to toss two grand at a rifle just to see of it’s going to break.
I’m taking it with me when the doom porn becomes reality.
 
SFAR owners, what has been your experience so far with reliablity and accuracy? The weight and price on this rifle has me very intersted, but it looks like a lot of folks are having issues. I am hoping Ruger has worked out the kinks by now.
 
I've only shot mine occasionally, but it's been perfectly reliable. I'm also not shooting it for benchrest level precision, but it seems reasonably accurate as the light, handy rifle in 308 that I wanted.

My one "complaint" was that the QD mount hole in the handguard seems to be undersized. It's an MLOK handguard, though, so I just added another one.

Accuracy is tricky. I saw several reviews (a while back) and they couldn't get better than 1 MOA. however, I say it is tricky because I don't think anyone was reloading.

I would be curious to hear what reloaders or people shooting match ammo have to say.

But it seems that if you can get 1 MOA consistently with the rifle, then it should be good enough. This is not a PRS or F class gun.

I am holding for the 6.5cm upper.
 
See post #121 at the top of the page. For the price it’s difficult to turn down. I’ve had zero reliability issue. I still want a spare bolt, just cause. If I can get even 2MOA with a 16” “battle rifle” I’ll be pretty friggin happy. It’s way more accurate than me while I’m running and gunning around like a tubby larper.

I have been able to get 1 MOA groups fairly consistently with a 20”.
 
So - how did this gun turn out for folks who got in on the group buy?
How would you compare it to an AR15 platform? Or does that comparison not quite make sense?
Thinking of getting one and want to see what the general opinion is on this gun. Seems like a great price on a compact and performant gun.
Are there other similar choices?

I might go the complete upper route. Not sure yet. I will decide while staring at myself in the mirror at the gym tonight (no homo).

I can put a 6.5 upper on my M5 lower. So prob go that way.
