Residences in two states?

How would this work:

Say I have a house in MA and a house in FL and spend roughly half the year at each. Would I have a resident ltc in one and a non-resident in another? Would both be resident or non-resident? Is it dependent on the discretion of the CLEO in each state?

Does anyone know how that scenario would play out?

That's because citizenship isn't the issue; residency is. Found out the hard way which search term to use when I ran a similar query a while back.
