The report says the noise might have come from a nearby construction site. Could've been a Hilti (powder actuated) fastener, which, I can't believe, are actually legal to purchase in Massachusetts.

OT: Does MGL exempt Hilti-type power loads? One could argue you need an FID to possess those, as they contain "ammunition components".
