Damn, u got me with the Subject line!NRA GFY! And I don't mean 'good for you'.
Anyone else get their sleazy ad campaign letter today with big bold "NOTICE OF GUN CONFISCATION" on front of the envelope?
Dear Wayno, are you trying to make the Guinness Book of World Records in this category?
Seriously, this tactic is sleazier than Wayno's wardrobe budget.
Why not some truth in advertising? "Hi, my name is Wayne Lapierre. I'm soliciting for donations to my Cialis fund in order to keep NRA interns busy. Give till it hurts! Send your donation today and I'll send you a live link to our interns getting naughty."
(Yes, this is Wayno's intern)
I try to keep an open mind and watch for WLP's departure and hopefully some retooling at the NRA, but getting junk mail like this doesn't give me much hope for that. At least we have GOAL, COMM2A, and some local clubs in jeopardy that we can support. C'mon NRA- do better!
Wayne is BS, but the NRA isn't. They do lots of lobbying, educating, and run matches, etc.Their scare tactics lose them credibility.
Damn, u got me with the Subject line!
I've said this before and it needs to be said again: The NRA does good work and is something we need to maintain our rights.
And as much as gun people are the biggest skinflints of anyone, this is NOT the place to do it. The NRA is both a real and perceived threat to the antis and impacts our legislative landscape every year. Look at other countries that have no equivalent namely UK & Australia and see what happened there. As well as the education, matches and especially the local support for our GOAL.
Every large organization has waste. Stop focusing on the cost and focus on the value - what would this country be like if the NRA is gone? Or, never was? There are other good groups but they are midgets relative to NRA. For $30 a year you get the largest lobby in Federal government protecting your rights.
This content comes up at least every year in one thread or another. It isn't perfect but don't be penny wise and pound foolish. OUR rights depend on it.
.
The NRA has a policy of not criticizing police even in the most egregious situations except, perhaps, when they are acting directly against legal gun owners (for example, Katrina). However I feel like with everything going on with defunding the police, riots etc. this is the perfect moment for the NRA to step up and say now more than ever is why the second amendment matters.
This crap works. I asked someone involved in this sort of campaign and the answer was "we've tried a lot of things and track the response and this stuff works the best". I guess people are stupid.
My favorites:
Official sounding warnings that undeliverable mail must be handled in accordance with USPS regulations. The mail is standard (formerly bulk) rate and the USPS regulation is "discard if undeliverable".
And the endless surveys from gun orgs asking me to cast my "official ballot" in my role as a "juror". Naturally, including a request for $$ at the end.

FIFYPoint is they aresupposed to be a 2Aa Wayne LaPierre advocacy organization.
I don’t disagree about them being the biggest one in the room.

I just went to their website, no mention of it on the main page mobile site. They have lost sight of what their purpose is IMO.
That may be true, but they are still doing loads of good despite the recent Wayne BS. Again - picture your shooting life without them - it's not good.
Everyone focuses on the lavishness of the guy at the top. Sure, I get it, he gets paid a lot and he takes a lot of heat. All top execs do it, you can't find one who isn't doing it. But if you can do a better job, then work your way into it and show up. Better yet, work to reform the group. Take the direct mail you get and send back with a handwritten note saying what you support and what you don't. Call, write a letter. Tell them you think they should be making a statement about the police, or ask them what their position is. And then do it again with the next issue/point. It matters.
Just don't cheap out and say "I'm not gonna support NRA because _______________". It's skinflint BS masquerading as some kind of "principle". And yes we need GOAL, Comm2A, GOA we need them all. They all have a different focus and one is not going to substitute for the others.
.
Set up your amazon smile account to donate to Comm2a whenever you make a purchase.I asked to be removed from their mailing list, so I don't get that BS anymore. I prefer to support GOAL, GOA, and donations to Comm2A when I can.
Good reminder. I've been doing just that for years.Set up your amazon smile account to donate to Comm2a whenever you make a purchase.
Looks like the NY AG is about to do that for ya!He's done a lot of damage to the NRA's reputation. I bet he's lost them millions in lost revenue. Here's an excerpt from a 2019 AmmoLand article written by Jeff Knox (son of Neal) that sums up the situation with Wayno quite well:
...Wayne’s compensation rose rapidly from about $250,000 a year to almost $1,000,000.00. In the latest available IRS report from 2017, LaPierre’s total compensation was reported at $1.4 million, or about $117,000 per month, and a couple of years before that, he also got a distribution from his retirement fund of about $4 million, for a total compensation of more than $5 million that year. It’s worth noting that he’s receiving this at a time when the NRA is over $30 million in the red, and the retirement fund is in negative numbers to the tune of almost $60 million. Ack-Mack’s take from the NRA in 2017 was over $40 million.
For those not familiar, Ack Mac is the advertising & PR firm incestuously hired to pummel us with all the crappy junk mail. Of course Ack Mac had other responsibilities as well, number one being to drain the NRA coffers.
I truly WANT to support the NRA, but refuse to do so until the NRA cleans house. I'm disappointed this hasn't been done already. Hiring a Wayno Deux doesn't count either. Until then, no dinero. I can't bash anyone who does support the NRA- they have their reasons and that's fine. For me, I would refuse to join a club that mandates NRA membership and I'd think twice about firing a bullet in a competition organized by NRA.
The interesting thing though is that the NY AG is charging Lapierre and others of the NRA leadership with misspending/hoarding/stealing etc. membership and pro-gun lobbying funds. Wouldn't that be exactly what an anti-gun lawyer would WANT a pro-gun organization's leadership to do, rather than to use those funds to ACTUALLY defend gun rights???Looks like the NY AG is about to do that for ya!
