You can split hairs here all day and night. The fact was this idiot was shooting a 45 ACP pistol in the air. In mid town Manhatten [sic] chances are pretty good that a few rounds will find their way into the surrounding apartment building.

No argument - also no issue. That the activity was not merely reckless disregard for life, but also criminal, is not in question. The media misrepresentation to whip the public into a frenzy over the event is.

This story would be a whole lot more interesting had a law abiding LTC holder (yes, I know, it is NYC) taken this guy out. Would the media hail a LTC holder as a hero or villify said person in the interest of depicting ALL firearms/firearm owners as evil?
