not a bad article, but I feel he misses the point a bit. sure, the vast majority of guns fires area fired at nothing more than paper...

but it doesn't matter that 99% of guns are used harmlessly. it does matter that the importance of guns is literally life or death if you are in that position.
 
I think he makes the life or death point as well. He also points out a lot of the things anyone who isn't operating under of a fear of inanimate objects already knows.
It is good, because he usually writes about economics and politics (check out his other articles, they are usually excellent), so I bet he'll reach a lot of people who might not think about gun issues otherwise.
He was Reagan's assistant secretary of the treasury, I believe.
