Lou Dobbs segment on this old international gun-control treaty that Obama has dredged up. Apparently, he's serious about pushing hard for this.

As we've discussed, this would create a national registry for all gun owners and would give foreign countries access to this registry! It could also potentially do away with home reloading.

One or two of them reappear about once a month. I won't name names. They pop in and play nice, and avoid these ... controversies. I had them pegged for DU interlopers from the get-go.

I'm sure you stumbled on here by mistake thinking this was a hunting site, so let us be nice and help you out a bit.

Sadly, the so called "check and ballance" system only really works if you have both parties with equal control. Currently, the Lib Dems have control of everything thanks to the Bush admin. so unfortunately, the "ballance" you speak of, has little representation.

Hopefully, the mid road dems will see this as a killer for them in the polls in their states and not side with the obamazobies.

but, there is a reason that none of the other prior Presidents would sign this, and that reason has little to do with 'gun control' and a lot to do with ensuring that the US stays a FREE Nation not bound by laws of other nations.

Obama is too stupid to see that and too much of an idealist to think that making friends with everyone in the world will magically love the US of A.

I love this. The liberals win one election by a few percent and think that everyone fully supports Obama's agenda in its totality. We are still in the honeymoon period and once that is over (very soon) it will only take pissing off a few of the people that voted for him to tip the scales. More gun control and donations of our tax dollars to ACORN should do the trick.

Maybe I am misinterpreting what you are saying, but I am assuming that the "Checks and Balances" you refer to are the one enumerated in the Constituition. If so, those Checks and Balances refer to the Three Branches of the Federal Government (Executive, Legislative, and Judicial) checking each other, NOT checks and balances on the citizens of this nation applied by its government.

Smeed, you are waaaaay too naive, everyone has polarized, there is seldom any compromise on many issues today. Your idealism is commendable and reflects the viewpoint expoused in high school civics class in about the year 1963 (although you must have missed the lecture on "checks and balances" please refer to post 19). I am certainly no conservative (I don't buy into the anti-gay thing or the anti-abortion thing, or the prayer in the school thing plus I'm a union f**kwad who works for the state which according to some makes me bad and worthless) but we gotta stand together on gun issues, because the "system" is going to screw us really, really bad if we don't. In the end nobody is going to help us, but us.

If you truly value your natural right to own a firearm ( if you don't know what this means look it up) - and if you had any idea of the history of gun control in this country, you would not take such a cavalier attitude.

If Obama was half the constitutional scholar he claims to be - then he would not even attempt to have any further gun control - on the other hand - maybe he does know the constitution well enough to know that any further attempts at outright gun control thru legislation will be a major problem. So he will try it thru dishonesty - by signing an international treaty.

Either way - if you think the "checks and balances" thing works I don't think you have really been paying attention.

If it worked - we wouldn't even be having this conversation right now because gun control would be a non issue.

Most people don't give a crap...Either:

1) They don't own guns.

2) They don't know what the Bill of Rights is.

3) They are happy in their own lives.

That's the sad, sorry, truth.

It also doesn't help our cause when the last 8 years, and the current GOP, is what most folks think of as "conservative". When it was far, far, from it.

I'll continue to do what I have been. Support the NRA or GOA etc. Taking newbies to the range, and convincing them we aren't a bunch of nut-cases

So basically, the next time you fly to Europe (or any other region) on vacation, customs is going to pull you aside and give you "special treatment" since you are on the international list of gun owners who may be smuggling something into their country.

In addition, since this treaty opens up the possibility of extradition for violating international law, you could be sitting at home someday when the Jack Booted Thugs arrest you and send you to Europe or China to be tried for violating some international law at home in your cabin in New Hampshire.

How long did it take to get the DC gun ban overturned?? Something like over 30 years... Just because something may or may not violate the constitution doesn't mean getting that corrected won't take decades, if it is even possible--especially since Obama is conveniently going to appoint some new Supreme Court Justices that share his opinion on what ammendments the constitution does and does not contain.

If the president gets an unconstitutional treaty ratified by a Senate controlled by a super-majority of his own party, and it is deemed constitutional by a Supreme Court appointed by him personally, then the treaty could ban religion, due process, freedom of press and free interstate travel and nobody could do anything about it. I forgot to mention, he also is the commander and chief of the armed forces...Yes, we are all fcked.
